Raleigh Rotary Drive-Ins for October
The RRDI will be busy in October. We have the Drive-Ins scheduled for the 2nd and 4th Saturdays, same time and same location.
To kick off the month we're doing the Rotary Rendezvous at the Zoo drive on Sunday, October 2 leaving from the Caribou Coffee shop at Briar's Creek by 8:30 AM and meeting other rotary owners form across the state in Asheboro between 11:00 and 11:30 for an early lunch. We'll then drive out and spend the remainder of the day at the NC Zoological Park. The Zoo closes at 5:30 PM and that will give everyone plenty of time to enjoy a nice backroad drive home.
On the following Saturday, Oct 8, Bryan of RotorSports Racing reports that they have gotten their 20B RX7 tuned and turning out 530 rwHP at 11 psi of boost. He asked if they could bring it to Raleigh next month for an RRDI. I told him of course and we'd be thrilled. I invited him over for the 2nd Saturday meet but will have to wait to see what their schedule is like.
I'll let you know more as I hear back from Bryan.
On that Saturday, we're planning a trip up to Virginia Int'l Raceway, just north of Roxboro or about a 90 minute drive from Raleigh, for the Rolex Cup Race. The Speedsource RX8 Mazda racing team will be competing in this national road racing series stop at VIR. Check out VIR's website for all the details and ticket prices.
Of course we'll follow all this up with a 4th Saturday drive-in on October 22 to round out the months rotary calendar. Come join the fun.

RRDI This Coming Saturday
The Raleigh Rotary Drive-In will be held this coming Saturday at 6:30pm at the Char Grill on Strickland Road. We have a great Rotary Rendezvous at the Zoo to relive, and some will have been up to VIR to cheer on the RX8 teams racing in the VIR 200, the ST class of the Grand American Cup Road Race series. I'm sure there will be pictures to share.
We'll also be taking orders for the RRDI shirts and finalizing our order. The artwork is done and submitted to the screen printer. So if you want to order a few shirts, the perfect apparel for doing car maintenance and attending auto related events then get stop by and get your order in. They are running $15 for short sleeves and $17 for long sleeved T-shirts. Kids sizes are slightly less.
Again this Saturday, 6:30 pm at the Strickland Road Char Grill.

Got a call today from an RX8 owner named Josh, from Asheboro, who met Lance at the Zoo on Sunday. He said he wanted to find out more about the group and really like seeing all the rotaries at the Zoo. He has a Sunlight Silver 8 with an aero kit and other mods and will try to make it to Raleigh on Saturday! He also has a friend with an FD and will try to bring him along, that is if the FD is running then:0)

Josh uh. And I met him at the Zoo? I don't recall meeting another meeting another Rx-8 owner. I guess I forgot, I was too pre-occupied with my twins trying to get in the animal exhibits. I guess I remember when I see him on Saturday.
I'm trying to get the Rx-8 owners at SAS to come out to the RRDIs. Let see we have white, silver, titanium, blue, black, and another red Rx8s at SAS. Man if i get all those people to come out, then their won't be any parking spaces for Bert and his Rx-7 buddies!. lol

Rainy RRDI, October 8
Sorry, no pics from this DI, too dark and rainy last night. We had a pretty good turnout for a rainy Saturday evening. Greg, Ray, and I brought out our FCs, Red-White-Black. Dan drove in from the Greensboro area in his MB FD and Josh did show up around 9:30 in his FD, and we had the Shinka duo, Lance in the Pepper Red RX8 and Gary in his classic TiGray 8, we even had Dav and his date stop by for a visit between cruises.
Small turnout as far as numbers but we had a great time reliving last Sunday's Rotary Rendezvous at the Zoo, discussing a new idea, weekend drives, and talking about some other ideas for offering a greater variety of options for RRDI members. T-Shirts are in progress toward final artwork from the artist and waiting on finals for approval before they go to printing.
Next weekend we'll hold the first weekend drive. The idea is for all those interested and available to meet early on either Saturday or Sunday mornings, have breakfast together, and go on a drive on some backroads and combine some of the drives with scavenger hunts to collect information or items along the way, timed runs over a predetermined circuit following driving directions, that may or may not be clear and straight forward, to finish the course in a predetermined time - Rotary Road Rally, RRR. Other ideas welcomed. We also played "where's Waldo" with the Fontana Dam Parking Lot picture in the most recent issue of RX Tuner, everyone that went to the Rotaries at Deals Gap Rally tried to find themselves and their car in the parking lot photo.
Everyone interested in going to the NC Sate Fair this month remember Christina's planning a group trip to the fair on one of its weekends. Post on that thread and let her know you're planning on joining us. I think we're planning on caravaning thru the fairgrounds instead of walking and putting up with the crowds, heck, the exhaust fumes alone will drive away most of the people! We'll just park where we want and do what we want, after all we own rotaries! Hit Christina up for the details.
The weather was bad but the food and rotary comraderie was great, appreciated Lance making it out with his future rotorheads and Dave bringing Christina by in her salsa dress, it was nice seeing her all dressed up just for us, maybe not for us.

Calling all the Raleigh 8's
If you guys are still interested in going for our Sunday drive, post up either here or in the 7's club area. We need to have another strong showing from the 8's again.

Well, details as of this writing are scarce, but we are meeting up at the Cracker Barrel either on Saturday or Sunday morning AM. Sunday was mentioned that it would be better because Christina wants to go to the fair later on in the afternoon.
The plan is to have an early breakfast, sometime around 8 or so, leave about 9, and just head south. Lance has mentioned that there are some great roads out and around Jordon lake, so that might be a destination.

I saw the other thread on the discussion board...it looks like I missed the order time and date.
I will get one next time they are offered.
Do I need to watch the threads on this site to find all the information for RRDI, or is the info/events posted elsewhere?

Just incase you don't read the RRDI shirt thread

Met with Capital Promotions today to finalize our shirt order, we're getting 24 short sleeve shirts and 7 long sleeve shirts. There was an extra $2 charge for XXL and $3 for XXXL shirts but other than that everything was agreed to at $15 for short sleeves in all sizes from child to XL and $17 for long sleeves from Small to XL. They said we would be able to add to the order until next Friday, October 21, that's when they will setup for the printing and the shirts will be ready at week later on October 28. I put down a 50% deposit to get the artwork finished and to schedule the screen printing so the work will getting underway soon. I'll post up the final artwork on the Tshirt thread for everyone to see when I get it to proof and approve.
Check out the T-shirt thred on this forum for more information.
Any shirts ordered at a later date, and not part of a group order of 12 or more, will be very pricey, so if you want a shirt order it now.

PM Bert (GTUser) on here or the RX-7 Club asap for a shirt, orders can be taken until Friday the 21st. He also is pretty good about posting on here and there about the meetings which are the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month. We meet at 6:30 and go until.... Once the time change hits we'll start meeting around 5:30.

Hey, do any of you guys have 8's with aftermarket exhausts? I live in Raleigh and go to State, but i work on saturdays and cant seem to make it to one of your meets yet. But I was wondering if you guys knew of someone with one, preferably RB, tanabe, or something similar, just want to hear it in person. I could possibly meet up with them or something.

buhloon added to the shirt order
Just wanted to let everyone know that buhloon, Rex, and my10ae, Kevin, have been added to the shirt order and hope to see them at a Drive-In real soon. It is great that the RX8 contingent continues to grow and become more active in our meets and outings. Doug, Bobby get pictures this weekend and get a member photo, car and driver pose, if you can.
Just to let everyone know, we'll probably end up with a couple of extra shirts for sale. The total order to date is 27 short sleeve and 9 long sleeve T-shirts. For those that haven't paid yet you can use Paypal to send your payment. PM me for my account information. I won't be at the RRDI this weekend, may get one of my sons to stop by in my RX7 just because it needs the company and fraternity of other rotaries. If you want to bring the money and my car shows up just give the money to Daniel or Matt, don't know which one might make the DI yet.
