I'm home and I'm too tired to post so look for my weekend update tomorrow after I've had a chance to get some rest. We had a great weekend. Swoop took lots of pics of our gang and there's something about a flame thrower that may be discussed. I think OD should be the one to talk about that. I also think the name "Coupon Pants" may may be changed to "Poopon Pants". Discuss amungst yourselves!

What a blast!
Got to hang out with some people I consider great friends, and met some new ones. I will have to admit from the time we pulled in to the track Fri night, until I was about halfway home I was in tunnel vision. So much to remember and absorb - sensory overload.
There were a bunch of people in DE-1 that had problems getting in, registering, teching, finding their instructor, knowing what to check between runs, etc, etc that they said they were totally stressed before getting on the track.
Ya'll were great.

TA - All I can say is thanks. Looking back on it, you had your sessions, 2 students, a CEL, giving rides, etc - but it felt like I had your personal attention the whole weekend. And getting to ride with you before my first session really opened my eyes. (they about popped out of my head, but damn that was helpful - especially on braking). You sir, are the man.

OMS, OD, Phlash - You guys were like the big brothers I never had. Getting me checked in/teched, making me check stuff I didn't think of, helping me check it, fixing it, imparting knowledge, keeping me relaxed, dragging me to Hooter's .... ok, so you didn't have to drag, but letting me follow you.. Thanks. Those 4-5 8 caravans we took after the day were great fun. Bunch o 8's, 2 with pipes, cruising town - sweet.

Swoope, Robert, Dennis - A pleasure to meet you all. I am sure it won't be the last time. Don't let it be the last. Too much fun. Ya'll fit in perfectly. Yeah, once you get out there, it is hard to let it go..
Swoope, you got lucky - got to be out there with TA when he mowed some grass out of 4.

RX7Don, Donna, Kevin - Look for us - if not, we will track you down at events. A pristine FD and pink accented Lotus are hard to miss...

Dano

Had to go to the Dr. this morning because the pain I had yesterday turned out to be a kidney stone. That made for a LONG *** trip home. The wife has gone after my Loratab 10's and when she get's back I hope to be passing out soon. Never had kidney stones before and I don't want them again.

Later... I'm worthless!

Sorry for the other thread hyjack....

Lead the race for more than half of it. It kicked ***!

Sorted out some differential issues the whole weekend. Also got intimate with an i-Moto Acura.

"Borrowed" a differential from an '07 RX-8 with 8 miles on the odo!

The weekend in review...

As you can guess, we had an awesome time. Roebling never fails to deliver good times and this past weekend was no different. I am grateful for the camaraderie of good friends and our common love of track.

Dano - great job on your first HPDE. I think you did a fantastic job on the track learning quickly and executing on some key skills from the very beginning. You used the brakes with authority stomping on them at the 3 marker going into 1. By comparison, my HPDE2 student that I inherited half way thru the weekend (was described to me by his instructor as the best braker he has ever had) driving a fully built SPEC-E30 race car with R compounds and race brakes started slowing at the 4 marker. In all fairness he was carrying about 15 mph more but still... Fact is that Dano got around a lot of other cars on track. The auto tranny is not ideal for track but we made it work pretty well. Thanks for requesting me as your instructor as I had a great time.

Silver - you have come a long way my friend. I recall your first time at TGPR. Now you have confidence, smoothness, an open to learning attitude, and a flame shooting car. You are gaining a lot of speed and the seat time is showing. Keep having fun and sneaking off to track events as often as you can. Save your money on performance parts and spend it on maintenance parts and track time. That will make the most difference. I hope the kidney stones pass quickly for you.

Phlash - my tweaker roomie! Nothing compares to peeling you off the ceiling on a Sat morning before we head out to some greasy breakfast. Congrats on completing the IC and having your first student. Sounds like you guys got along well and you were able to help him in his first time at RRR. Keep getting seat time. That multiplies when you add in laps in the pass seat. Those help in learning a lot as well.

OD - you remain the silent fast one. Well, not so silent with the catless midpipe but you just go out there in HPDE3 and run quick laps. You always have a smile on your face and you are always the first to help anyone out. But, what is it with you and Hooters???

Swoope - great meeting you. Thanks for making the long drive just to hang out. I am glad I could at least show you our appreciation by letting you get into my pants and then taking you out for a few sessions and show you that when you get too close to the edge and you get the 2 outside wheels off the pavement, you are likely to spin and get a bunch of dirt into the car. I am a pro at finding the edge of the track and then seeing what if I go just a bit more outside... I can't help but notice your new slogan (**** I want to go back out). Wonder where that is from.

I had a great time of course. I let a lot of guys into my pants. All seemed satisfied with the experience. I know I was fulfilled but it always leaves me wanting more. it was also good being back on R compounds. The Azenis were a great tire and I got a lot of track miles out of them. They never chunked or anything, but the RA1s just turn in so much better and hang on so much longer. I must admit that my last session on Sunday was one of my most fun ones going out on the OEM Dunlops.

Thats all for now. It will be a while before I can get any video up.

Coupon Pants y'all!

Ok, ok, ok, ok, ok, ok, my turn...........oh, and btw, drinking a 40+oz can of AMP at about 5:30pm will keep you going strong till about 2:00 in the morning......trust me, I know.......ok, ok, ok, ok......no swoope (swoope, swoope baby...sorry) I don't need any more drugs....

WHAT A FARKING BLAST!!!! On the coast, sunny, in the mid 80's, and TRACK!!!!! WOOHOO!! Really, it was kinda fun.....

OD - Damn....silent and fast as hell (with the occasional black cloud and fireball). Despite the constant bitching and the b@st@rd miata, it's great to have your company, input and friendship and of course the impact wrench. Always willing to help, you are a huge asset to our cause and good times. Now if we could just find a jack man...HEY LEGO.......

Dano - virgin no more stripper man!!! What a great attitude you carried all weekend! You and TA got to both learn the in's and out's of the auto and from what we could see, you had a damn good time of it!! I hope you join us again. Welcome to the cult, here's you'r kool-aid!!! You HO!

OMS - I think you're faking the kidney stone.......you just don't wanna admit you hurt your old self from the g's you were pulling this weekend. You are the new Bud-Light hero this go around mister "I shoot four foot flames" man....my oh my it's been a while since TGPR...and you have come a long way. Seat time has been very good to you...keep it up......faker!!!! Hope your bother had a good time riding with me our last session.

TA - Thank you my good friend and mentor. You are an inspiration for all of us. If you can continue to deal with my bouncing off the walls at all hours, I guess I can deal with your bull in a china shop snoring........ Your time first thing with me Saturday morning during my first session helped me to unload some gremlins and reservations I had after finding out I had a real student the night before. Glad you were "spin man" this time instead of me. Have fun at RA this weekend...you instructor ho!!

Swoope - WOOHOO!!!!! Look, no drugs!!! Just me, ala natura'l !!! (sorry, lost my mind for a moment....really). Damn good of you to make the trip and then to force us to accept "Beers" at Hoot's Saturday night??? That is AWESOME!!! Sweet set up you have going. Nice of you to give up your ride with me last session Sunday to OMS's brother....he got a big kick out of it......we'll do it next time......actually you need to be on track driving it with us next time......enjoy those new coupon pants!! Welcome to the cult !!!

Patrick (my DE1 student) - I know your out there somewhere........aspirations of racing spec 30's......you did a great job man!!!!! He picked up the landmarks and line very quickly. By the third session was talking his way around the track fluently......We did a lead/follow Sunday and he did great.........remember, keep havin' fun, and you'll do just fine!!!

I'm tired.....really....6:00a this morning came really early after finally winding down at 2:00a. Damn you OD for making me drink that damn pony keg of Amp!!! Thanks all. You have all come to be a part of me and my little world. I have so much damn fun during these weekends, that I don't realize how how friggin' worn out I really am till late Monday or Tuesday. Thanks for all your support on track, with my new student, and IC clinic. From the ceremonial colon cleansing breakfast's, to the final flashing of the headlights and horns honking, these are truly weekends I carry memories around for forever.......from this weekend I will carry....ok, ok, ok, ok, ok, ok, ok, ok.......bitch, bitch, bitch........b@st@rd miata......."Phlash, you need some Valium?".......damn, you blowin' oil too???.......four foot flames (fish stories)..........."poopon pants"........and hell even a MILF thrown in for good measure (we're all goin' to hell for that one)........

Sleep well all !!

Wow
I dont think I can say anymore---i just know it was one of the best w/e's ever.
I will post as soon as I have figured out what the hell happened.
Few memory reminisces
1-- Did you see that freaking flame--OH MAN!
2- ****!--Now I want to go back out!
3- Damn a screw in my hoosier and i have to take it to Walmart to get it fixed!
4- Yea my new GT3 ony has 300 miles on it.--huh?
5- talking non stop on the in car communicator when TA rode with me- I never stopped---why the hell did I do that?
6- passing 3 wide going down the front straight at about 110mph!
7- That ))(&%^$#))(&& miata
8- Phlash hunching his steering wheel going down the interstate trying to make his car go faster after drinking that dang keg of AMP. I am still laughing about that visual.
brain is tired--to bed--take pipe off tomorrow and change out brakepads.
Charlie if you read this Don And Donna and their teenage son are really great folks. Really like that guy--he's real. That is a sweet 3nd gen you worked on also. I look forward to seeing them again.

Glad you guys had fun. I so wish I could have been there, but for me, track events will be rare from now on.

Lego, absolutely, feel free, i will PM my contact information.

As for the bad news of the weekend, the 9 had issues, but I got my money back, which is good.

Where is the next event .. Anyone doing CMP with the Mustang club the first of June?

WARNING - DUE TO THE HIGH LEVEL OF LORATAB IN MY SYSTEM, THIS POST MAY BE A TAD INCOHERENT!

I have 14-15 track events under my belt now but I have to say in all sincerity that this was the most exciting ever for several reasons. This was the first time I'd ever been on track with my fellow 8'ers, something I've wanted to do for a long time. Stepped up to HPDE3 for the first time with passing left and right. Enjoyed walking up to total strangers I had driven with on track and talking about the last session. Enjoyed not having to go to but one class. A mid-pipe is not required to make you go faster. It may look like you kicked in the after burner but its all looks and sound. However it does make for good stories. Wish someone had video! I will not bother to put it on again.

- Robert, it's nice to know someone in the family supports me in my speed hobby. You are the brother I always wanted! At some point I will talk you into joining us behind the wheel. I will be patient, as I know you have to work it out and you have other priorities right now. It's always fun to see you get out of one of the 8's after sitting in the passenger seat for a session. You’re like a little kid at Disney World.

- Dennis, You need to tell Robert that there are other priorities! You two work together and see if you can't put a car on the track. If you would like to see a vid of a Crown Vic Interceptor tearing up Barber, I'm sure Robert from Alabama could show you how to use what you already have. He's been known to rent one just to take it to the track!

- Don & Donna, You guys were fun to hang with at the track and ya'll certainly have a life full of excitement. 50' powerboats, track cars and such and I'm wondering what you do in your spare time! That FD is one sweet machine. Wouldn't you know it... All that restoration and one silly screw took you out! Yea Walmart!

- Swoop, you are now an official member of the GA RX-8 Club... wait, no... We revoked that when we found out you only work 3 days a week! I know it's a long way from Orlando to our events but I sincerely hope that you will join us anytime and bring some of your FL gang up with you. Thanks for taking pictures. It was a pleasure to find out that everything I said about the camera you were familiar with. Just remember, that is how I first got into tracking so keep in mind that Photography leads to Track! Let me know next time you are going to pay so I can order something besides a glass of water!

- TA, you suck!

- Danno Congratulations on your first event. I'm proud of you for bringing out your Auto8. Sure there were speed deficiencies but I'm sure it didn't take away from the event's excitement. Requesting TA was a very smart move. Keeping it all in the family does several things. It keeps you from having to deal with the instructor hunting routine. Also, you found out that he was dedicated to you and you will not find that every time you go out. I'm looking forward to you joining us again next time.

- OD, I can never thank you enough for all you did to help me adjust to DE3 prior to getting on track on Saturday. You helped me to not worry about the passing and to not be intimidated because everyone out there would be experienced enough to handle the situations... except for the #22 RED MIATA! What an asshat! When we came off the track after the first run at seat-time and you were explaining how long the flames were and your reaction, I was cracking up. I think you were ready to come in and call it a day after that. Sorry for the subtle snoring. I promise next time I will bring my nose strips. You are a true asset to our group, as you never hesitated to jump in and help ANYONE work on their car. You have tremendous insight and knowledge and we all benefit from it. Plus, it's nice to know someone is older than me. OD, you are one fast driver and I really appreciate you holding up to lead me and follow me to give me feedback. You could walk away from me on track any time you wanted (and did).

- Phlash, Congratulations on being an instructor. I was very impressed with you skills on the track. I must say that OD and I prompted your Instructor/Student into the discussion on your roll playing session. Hope you didn't mind a little l of the DE3 Classroom. I don't know how you can be so wired and not burn out. You never quit, even when we were headed home driving down I-16 you were rocking out in your car with one hand hanging out the driver's side and the other out the sunroof.

- Chuck, the instructor in the blue and white Miata, I'm sure you will not be reading this but I really enjoyed playing with you on the track. Wish I could have gotten another opportunity.

- TA, Dude, you are the glue that binds us as a group. Your leadership, skills, wisdom and ability to bullshit are unmatched. I always learn more and more. I think the one that stands out for me this event was an emphatic "Don't shift so hard" when going to 4th at the flag station between 7 & 8. I always timed it because my car would backfire and huge puff of black smoke would billow out for the corner worker. When you rode with me, I was a bit concerned you would not think I was ready for DE3 but with your assurance "You are ready for DE3" that made my day and I don't think I ever looked back after that. That assurance from you was very important to me.

I have lots of photos that Swoop shot but I'm exhausted after writing this short story so I will have to go lay down now. Kidney stones are the single worst continuous pain I've ever experienced. I would not wish it on anyone.

Thanks guys!

I am taking that as a compliment.

OMS - I think you really did well and I have no concerns that you are in DE3. You are very aware of traffic on the track. You now have had some real expereince in being offline into and through a corner. It is a whole different world isn't it? Wait until you are in an open passing group with no point bys and a 911 GT3 Cup car suddenly appears out of nowhere and passes you on the inside of the carousel.

I have to say it was one of the best weekends we have had. We had a decent sized group and made new friends. I hope your kidney stone passes really soon.

STF - sorry to hear that the deal on the EVO fell through. I am sure the call of the road course is too strong for you to ignore it for too long.

It is great watching you on the track. a real vet.
Silver--you are one fast learner dude. Just wait when you get some ra's or hoosiers or 710's! i may even talk you into 17's rims. You are the flame master---lifetime memory that!!! I believe the corner workers thought i was nuts because I was laughing so damn hard during my laps. You say i was faster---hell i was scarced to death to stay BEHIND that flame monster -- i had to passed to keep from getting charred!! appreciate the tip on shifting--it worked for me. had to be reminded I am no longer dragging. room with you anytime partner. i was afraid that was a kidney stone---hope you never have another one and i hope you give birth soon. What are you going to name it?

Just dont let your students play with your knee anymore ok ok ok ok ok! You are a hoot man! And a damn great friend. You looked good on track out there. you can do anything you want with that car and those 710's.
Dano-- a track ho is born!! Great having you there---1st auto we have ever seen on track--you are the 1st man!!
Saw your progression and you even didnt get edgy after that session was cancelled! Cool dude. You also learn fast--braking much better on Sunday weren't ya!?
Swoope---sorry can't help it--everytime i visual you in your hat and those blue sunglasses--it's back to "weekend at Bernie's". Sweet 8 you are riding in and it sure sounds good. it was a landmark having you with our little group--next time--and there will be a next time--you have to be on the track , great pics by the way and it was absoulutley a pleasure. You are one cool dude.

Man, that was so much fun - can't get it out of my head. Does it ever stop??
Gonna have some decisions to make here in the future. I like my AT for 90% of the driving I do - ATL traffic - but there is something missing when the road opens up.
It is trackable to a degree. I am a total n00b, and I know that. I had such a good instructor, and the car handles so well, brakes great, that yeah - not much passed me, and I got to pass a bunch o cars. But it was DE1. A lot of scared people, and as TA said "dainty handed" drivers got passed.
I gotta decide if I keep this as my DD, and spend on cheapo track Miata, or trade in for an MT, or just deal with the AT for a couple events a year.

Wish I was rich!

Yea, some tough choices. You saw the miatas on the track and they did quiet well against some seirouse competition. That is what I wouuld do. You will come out cheeper and you will have a toy to play with and still keep your 8. If you trade on another 8 you are going to leave a lot of money on the table.
