Rotary Weekend Drives in NC

Rotary Weekend Drives in NC
RRDI is staring weekend drives in North Carolina. Just a driving event to meet other rotary owners, expand your knowledge of owning, driving, and enjoying your rotary powered wonder. A rare chance to taste a little bit of true freedom and escape your reality for an all too brief a time.
Come on guys, speak up. This is going to be a pure driving event, no place to stop, no arrival time and no predetermined destination, just meeting for breakfast, jumping back in the cars and driving 'til all the stress is blown away by speed and the excitement of being in YOUR rotary. You can drive 'til you're lost or until you run out of time and have to return to your reality. Saturday or Sunday whatever is best for you. It'll be a very relaxing and fun time with people that share your interest in cars. You'll be on the road with a pack of rotaries and what can be better than seeing other people's heads turn or hitting their brakes as the pack roars past.
If you have something serious and very important to do and aren't stressed out by school, work, friends, or family then you'll be missed but if want to escape to an alternate rotary reality show up for the weekend drive. This will be truly therapeutic for you and your car. If you haven't taken your car out for a couple of hours of uninterrupted driving then shake off the rust, clean her up and be a driver! You'll be headed no place in particular and won't have to get there by a given time, what better definition of FREEDOM can you imagine in today's world? If this kind of freedom doesn't scare you then fill up your tank, join us for breakfast, and lets all hit the open road to nowhere!
Time Saturday or Sunday's once a month, day will vary based on interests. Meet for breakfast at 8:00 AM, freedom dawns early in the rotary world, meet and greet time. Then we leave for nowhere around 9:00 AM, its hard to keep freedom at beigh, we'll stop when needed and drive where ever the roads and our whims take us.
FIRST WEEKEND DRIVE IS THIS COMING SUNDAY, MEET AT THE CRACKER BARREL IN MORRISVILLE, THEN HEAD SOUTH TO LANDS WHERE NO ROTARY HAS GONE BEFORE!

Okay, since this thread has been spread over three different threads and two different sites, I thought that I'd put it all together her:
Meet at the Cracker Barrel on Airport Blvd. off of 40 on Sunday.
Anybody wanting to eat breakfast first, we'll be there around 8 or so. Plan on hitting the road about 9am.
The early morning was chosen for a couple of reasons. One, the cars run smoother when the air is cool. Two, the traffic, if any, should be light for a Sunday morning. And third, we should be finished up by the mid-afternoon so that if you have any other plans for Sunday, you can still get to them.
Bobby! Lance! Still waiting to hear from you guys. Can't let the 8's be under represented here. Our pride is at stake!
:D

Well, &%$# does happen. I don't know if I'll go on the drive now.
A little upset after someone backed into my car. I'll post pics and such after I get things settled with the insurance companies.

Hey guys....I'm 50/50 right now on the drive, will know more tonight after work. I'm stoked on the idea of these drives though and I hate the idea of missing out on the first one.
AOC - man thats sucks! I suggest we take 'em and force them to breath my Turbo's exhaust fumes for an hour as part of the restitution.

Crystal Coast Rotary (CCR)
Does anyone have an idea of something closer to the coast. Is there anyone closer to the coast that would like to start up something for the 8's or rotaries? The title of my post I just came up with, not reality.

Is Sunday still on? I can make if anyone is up for this!
Kride, there are some guys in the RRDI group that come up to Raleigh all the time from down in your area I think. I'll cross post your idea into the SE section of the RX-7 Club if you don't mind running with some sevens! Worse case, how about we drive down to see you sometime and go from there one Sunday. Maybe just head on out to the coast for a days drive or something and make a day of it somewhere, something, somehow.... Heck, I'd be game for a whole day driving the outer banks, riding the ferry, wasting gas.... Got to be some guys on here or the 7 site that would want to meet up for a days ride.

yes, the weather was perfect. The drive was really awesome. A couple nice straight aways to hit "ludicrous speed" and a several curvy roads to test out the handling. Plus that one "oh crap we're turing here" turn...

Yes, it was great! Perfect weather, fun, fun, fun roads that got totally carved up, local residents that thought the Grand Prix was running right in front of their house, a dog-walking-old-lady wondering what the hell three cars are hauling *** down a dead-end street are doing, then glaring at us as we come hauling *** back again, more bicycles than cared to cope with (seriously, we were very careful with them), and the repeated opportunity to treat the posted speed limit as only a 'recommendation' with an occasional momentary lapse of reason to double it.
Best damn $20 worth of gas I've spent in a long time.
I challenge anybody in the RRDI group to tell us that they had a better Sunday than us. Looking forward to the next one.

Sounds like you guys had a good time, where did you go? I couldn't make it this weekend, I was in NY most of the week with the rain, and had a backup of chores to take care of. On these rides out in the country, please slow down around cyclist and give them a wide berth. They to are enjoying a nice ride in the country.
Bert, is there any color besides black for the RRDI shirts? If so, let me know. I think I will take a XL long sleeve. PM with a response. Thanks!

weekend drives?
are these weekend drives going to be going on as long as there is an interest? I am stuck in iraq and my baby is back west with my dad i will have it back in nc in january any info would be great

Yes, anyone that wants to do a drive can annouce it on the RX8 & RX7 websites and start to build interest. Based on their interest and free time people will join the drive, post comments or just ignore the whole thing. Yes they should still be happening in January, weather permitting. Look forward to you making it back to the rotary world and joining us as soon as you can. We'll drive down east and find some good roads and burn some gas.
The RX8s are starting to make an impressive showing at the drives and at our Drive-Ins. You'll feel at home again with all the 8 owners showing up these days. Last year was our first winter and the weather can make it real iffy on who will show up and can make it to the meetings in January and February, but its a great time whenever we get together.
Thanks for serving and keeping the terriost busy in Iraq for the rest of us. Under 90 days, your a short-timer now?

Yeah we need to get another one in before Thanksgiving. After that with all the holiday stuff it could get kinda hard to get people together. BUT...you can prove me wrong and I'll come along!

Brits and Battleship Car Show in Wilmington this Saturday. I'll be driving down to WIlmington this Saturday if anyone is interested in getting out of town and seeing the car show that the British Motor Car Club of the Cape Fear is putting on in Wilmington. I've called the organizers to get more info and will post it when I get the details.
This could be the opportunity for us, as rotary sports car owners, to go down an see some great examples of the original sports cars that started the American love affair with sports cars. Let me know who is interested and we'll organize a meet off of I-40 in Morrisville or at Briar's Creek off of Hwy 70 in Raleigh. How many 8 owners want to take their cars out for some excercise and put some fun road miles on them rather than the city commute miles. Always good for the rotary engine to get up to operating temps and run it for a few hours on an extended trip to blow out the carbon and cob webs, these are called therapeutic miles.
************************************************** ***************
Hey guys, just heard from Dave Sorensen of the British Motor Car Club of the Cape Fear on the Car Show in Wilmington, he welcomes us down for the show. He has invited any that want to enter the show to let them know and if they get enough rotary entries might get a special classification for our cars. Their website is http://www.bmccf.org/ with links for the car show info and other interesting info about their club. Johny should bring Tiffany down, Greg should get the TII shined up, Keith should bring your vert along, Josh could show your FD, and we have several FBs that would do well representing the first gens.
The guy sounded really glad to have another sports car enthusiasts' group to join the fun. It will be at the USS North Carolina Memorial parking lot and he said they have muscle cars, other sports cars in the show as well as British cars. Sounds like a great time and some interesting cars to look at.
We can do this as the November weekend drive, we'll drive back that evening or anyone that wants to stay overnight can do that in Wilmington or go on out to Morehead City and stay on the beach.
POST HERE IF YOU INTEND TO BE THERE AND WHERE YOU'LL MEET US. ALSO IF ANYONE WANTS TO ENTER THEIR CAR IN THE SHOW TO FILL OUT A FORM FROM THEIR WEBSITE. THE WHOLE THING KICKS OFF AT 10:00 AM.
All downeast guys, you're invited to meet us in Wilmington or somewhere between Raleigh and Wilmington along I-40 to join the rotary caravan.

Doug, nice to hear from you. I know a few people went up to VIR last weekend and I saw the Shinka in the group. Looks like it was a great turnout for a Saturday. What did you think? We'll talk about it on Saturday if you and Beth can make it.
I am not sure how many we'll get for this event on back to back weekends but I don't schedule the events. Whoever wants to go will show up on Saturday morning.
Yeah, I think we'll do the same arrangements. Meet at the CB for breakfast, then headout down I-40 to Wilmington. Diane and I are going and I've talked with the guy organizing the event, Dave Sorensen of the British Motor Car Club of the Cape Fear. He sounds like a nice guy and the event sounds like a lot of fun. We'll see who is up for it in the next couple of days.
