Tampa Maztech

Hey guys,

Just bought an 04 Rx8 with 50k on it and it is idling rough almost seems like it wants to stall at stoplights. I decided t take it into a shop and have set up and appointment with the guys at Maztech. Has anyone here ever used them before? Are they an honest shop? If not is there a better option in the Tampa bay area?

Thanks,

Not sure, but you probably just need a tune up (plugs, wires, ignition coils) possible you need motor mounts also.

Thanks hell. Where do you have your ride worked on? I have done all the work on my previous cars myself wanted to take the 8 in to an expert though to be sure the seals aren't blown before I invested in plugs wires coils and possibly a starter(she hesitates to start).

@ Skezzers LOL. The best thing I can suggest is to just replace them, more than likely it won't be the seals. There's another guy that when he would slow down really quickly or when he would stop sitting at lights the car would shut off, he needs plugs wire and ignition coils. The starting issue can be cause of those items as well, not just the starter. If you still have trouble after replacing that stuff I'd suggest a compression test. What kinda price quote did that place give you ? What were they going to check for the price quoted ?

he quoted me 80 bucks for a check over compression test checking the plugs and changing the oil, and to check the motor mounts. Sounded reasonable to me. As for the rough idle I sat and watched it for a couple minutes after getting home from work yesterday.

When the RPM's drop the car sits at 1000. It will then kick down to about 850 (this is where it feels rough), chugs for a few cycles then shoots back up to 1000. A bit more info on the car I bought it with SR pulleys on it. It also has an intake and exhaust. Don't know if these could be causing the issue?

dirty air filter and dirty MAF sensor perhaps, cleaning them wouldn't be a bad thing. when you are watching the rpms and you are noticing the drop/rough idle is the A/C on ?

Changed the plugs yesterday and she idles like a dream! Thanks for the help man. She still starts a little sluggish I'm wondering if the heat here is just making the battery struggle. Also my radiator fans run for a good 10 minutes when I turn it off, not the best for the battery there. Might just pop a new one in there.

Also I checked your Tampa club chat board and do you guys meet at that chili's every Wednesday? I might come up there for a couple of beers just to say hi.

I haven't heard anything bad about Maztech. The only issue with dealing with them is that he does strictly OEM stuff. No aftermarket modifications. So if you want work done to fix an issue, you should be fine.

Was wondering as well if there are any meets as well, joined the 8 club about a month ago with a black '05. Having the same problems so ordered a set of plugs and coils and hopefully calm my new baby down.
