Guys, not sure what's in store for me over the next week. My wife's dad just had his second heart attack in 24 hours. I have to take care of my wife if the need arises so I'm a maybe right now.

Gimlet,
I should be up there around 0930 or 10.
I need to talk to a Miata guy that lives near you. He wants to come hang with us.

I should be there about 9:00 with my son... unless the forecast gets worse. I really want to be there Saturday for the MX-5 Cup race. I'll be in the RX-8.

Hasn't been that long ago that we were dodging tornados at RA. 4 trips to the T 10A tunnel for me. I'll take a chance and go both days for the excitement.

Saturday at the Mitty

(same post from garx8club.com)

Enjoyed it guys! It's always fun when hanging out around motorsports activities and friends. Met a guy from Baton Rouge driving a Galaxy Gray that should be looking us up on the internet. Also met a guy driving a Mazdaspeed 6 that will be driving his first event at RR with NASA in a couple weeks. Struck up conversations with a lot of folks while watching cars smash into the wall about 15' in front of me. I'll explain that later.Talked with Jim Pantas, saw Paul from Mazmart, Don & Donna were spotted by Dano but I didn't see them. Dano, Chris, Denny and Kurt, enjoyed seeing you guys again. I can't sit still so I stuck the video camera in my face and went all around the track. I can't dump it till I get back to work monday so I don't know if I have anything worth while or not.

Now, about the cars smashing into the wall. I pulled into the parking next to the straight just out of track out at turn 7 for the Mustang race. It's like a spec race and all the stangs are identically prepared... but the drivers arn't! I'm there about 2 min. and I see one get squirrelly on track out. That's cool then a couple more pass and another gets really squirrelly but still gets it together and I decided this was going to be an interesting race. Next time around, several more are loosing it because they are too anxious to get into the throttle then all of a sudden, the tire screeching gets louder and one of the cars exceeds the recovery point, does a 180º and slaps the inside tire wall right in front of me, about 15' away and I just about crapped my pants! I mean this guy was heading right for my old fart ***. Well that was pretty cool because the guy was OK and the car was not damaged too bad. Then about two laps later, another car does the same thing except this one is going even faster and when he smashes into the tire wall right in front of me, I was like a deer in the headlights. Everyone on either side of me turned and ran and the impact of the car in the tire wall was quite forceful. This guy didn't move for a minute and the corner worker came over and tried to talk him out of the car but he wouldn't move. They hooked it to a truck and pulled it to the safety area and had to take him out of the car and to the ambulance. I hope he is OK. That was a pretty scary to happen 15' from your face.

In an open wheel session with f1's, one car lost it in turn 9 and didn't stop till he hit the wall, drivers right at the flag station in turn 10A. That was a pretty well demolished car. I had just turned my video camera off because it was the last lap and I wanted to go to another location. Figures!

Touring laps were pretty ho-hum. I bought a pass for two days so I'll get back out again tomorrow. Also did the parade laps after the races today. No big deal either but anytime you can hit an apex, it's fun. I did enjoy turns 6 & 7 with my tires screaming like little girls and hanging back for 10A/B. There couldn't have been more than 30 cars out for the evening run. It was a good thing that it didn't last but about 4 laps because everyone was getting to really enjoy the turns.

The only photos I took today were of olddraggers car. I just shot video and then finally got tired of looking through the camera and started watching when I got to turn 7. That was a hoot. Tomorrow I will break out the still camera. I will not wear my bright yellow shirt though as I did today. I got ran out of trun 6 because I looked like a caution flag.

Also, I will wear a cap/hat tomorrow and I will put on sun screen, I baked my face! Damn sun!

Just finished downloading all the video to my computer. Now I gotta find time to edit 83 clips.
