05 Airbox does not fit K&N replacement filter.. WTF?

Went to two different parts stores, they both had K&N 33-2283 i think...none the less they both had the same part numbers. I bought one and it turns out it was too small for the airbox. What gives? Something I am missing here??

i didnt remember the number but the guys looked it up and they both gave me the "right" one which was also listed on the K&N application booklet...

The problem was that it was TOO small and did not fit...

I have an '06 and the same air filter - 33-2284. Fits fine.

Gotta be wrong filter if it doesn't fit

Call Summit and give them the right part number. They will have it and free shipping. Good luck.

Are you sure the filter is new sealed in the original box, cuz I often find that some of the parts store never really check the package and when someone returns something if the seal seems *shut/glue up* they *assume* that its still unopen, in many case this is true but there are exceptions ...

The filter you got sounds fishy, return it asap, dont you EVER go back to those parts store. and start shopping online.

Search around online you can get some really cheap and real parts !

Let me give you 2

This site ONLY sells K&N stuff, they have EVERYTHING in stock. Not the cheapest but you can ALWAYS find what you want. Very speedy Shipping. usually the same day.

Summitracing, 100% NOT the cheapest, but has alot of stuff to choose from. Is like a complete Auto Parts Online Superstore. Great Customer Service.

Someone could have also switched the filters in the box. Therer is nothing tamper proof on those boxes to keep anyone from doing that

See I thought that maybe someone switched the filters but even the BOX was smaller than the OEM filter. I double checked the part number on the box and the couter guy verified it on the computer as well. Right numbers, right box, small size.

We then did a search for 06 RX-8 to see if they had a different part number, but they did not have anything listed for that year.

At the end of the day I just went to corksport and ordered the Green Filter from the RX-8 section. I figure that THEY at least will send the right one, AND if I have any trouble I can take it up with them.

We'll see...
