+10hp for $13--no joke

Watched a segment on Sports Car Revolution regarding EXP4 gas additive. They ran a dyno test and found a 5% hp increase. I've been emailing the company and they claim it's been used in rotary engines under race conditions so it's safe for our cars. Recommended interval is one bottle of additive per oil change. I haven't tried it yet but plan to shortly.

They also make additives for engine oil, transmission and differential fluid. It sounds promising.

I'm scheduling a dyno day in Feb - did SCR do the addition of the treatment 'on' a dyno? and saw 5% in back-to-back runs?

I got some of this stuff at REV-IT-UP last year, but never tried it, so here is the email I got when I inquired of them after the SCR episode. Sounds like an (almost free) lunch.

Thank you for your inquiry.

We have for the last year been providing the Mazda factory racing team the oil and gas additives. Since 1997 Oil companies have reduced the amount of protective additves in oil and lubricity agents in fuels to meet the new emission and mileage standards. EXP4 gas will "lubricate" the seals in the rotary engine. The fuel will burn more effectively, and the thermal stability componenet will give you heat protection to over 500 deg. One of the effective problems in the rotary engine is a higher heat build up. This will alleviate this problem. We have Mazda street racers who have been successfully using the product, again like the show, gaing Hp and torque.

Let me know if you have any other questions. I believe you will be pleased.

Let me know your results.

Again? anyone know 'how' to use the product? does it work instantaniously? Can anyone describe how the show did their testing?

Here's one tidbit from their site:

I have seen my mileage from one tank of gas increase by about 40 miles
40 miles on an RX8 is only about 2 gallons.

Two gallons of gas = $4.

One bottle of the stuff = $12.

IF power increases, even 2-3%, not 5, I'd be happy....

That sounds really neat. But about the gas mileage, if you change your oil every 3000 miles or so, add a quart in, you're saving money. 3000 miles(2500 I think a lot of people say but i'll use 3000 for easier math) is like 10 tanks of gas. 10 x 2 x 2 = 40 dollars, and the bottle is 12$ someone said. This could be a good thing all around. Keep us posted whoever decides to try it first.

Aoshi,

I think this is the gas additive.

Do you have to add every tankful? Couldn't get much info on their site either. But by adding to dmp's calculations above if it were every tank: We would pay net $8 per tank * 52 tanks = $416 for the 10hp for one year.

Sounds too good to be true. I figure I'm getting 18 mpg now... about 280 miles before I ran out. 40 miles for this tank would have given me 320, or 20.57 mpg. 20.57 mpg over 3000 miles would save me 21 gallons of gas at 1.79 a gallon. That's $37.59. Sure, why not give it a try? I don't really understand how it could work after the first tank.

How to use: You add it to your gas / oil

gas N&l product= 1-12oz bottle to fuel at every oil change or service OR 1.5oz per gallon of fuel for 2/4 cycle engines

oil enhancer = 1 bottle (10 oz) at every oil change

Must be instantaneous as they did the test before and after on one show with some guy from the company standing by to see what happened, no "we'll get back to you after we run it for a few thousand miles".

Exactly how they tested, I'd have to go review my Tivo to see if I saved the show.

So we'd only have to add one bottle every 5000 miles?

SCR dyno'd a car (truck?), added exp4, drove around a bit and then dyno'd again.

I just got off the phone with the company. Quick summary:
1. Gas additive appears fine for rotary use. Simply dump a bottle in during fillup.
2. Oil additive appears fine for rotary use. Use 1 oz. per quart for manual tranny or rear differential and one bottle for engine oil.
3. ATF additive is for automatic tranny at the 1 oz. per quart ratio. Rear diff still uses the oil additive.

Benefits: ~5% hp increase and 30 degree reduction in oil temps.

I plan to try these products out in my manual RX-8. I know one tuner who has an automatic so he'll try out stuff on his car. I'll post updates in a few weeks.

If anyone purchases this stuff and does some before/after dynos I'd love to hear it.

It's a lubricant that will leave a film behind afterwards. I expect the max benefit is during that first tank of gas, but the effects are supposed to last until the next oil change. Certianly plotting mpg over the course of an oil change will show its depletion rate.

Drove around a bit? hmm...mile? few miles? I plan on doing a baseline dyno, as-is, 5th gear on 92 Octane. Adding the product...doing two follow-up runs, then posting, and emailing the results to the manufacturer.

Wow. If this is true then the HP gain is through out the rev band. That's pretty cool.

Anyone know if this will work with synthetics?

It does seem kind of outrageous, but definite worth trying.

Don't know but my guess is they burned at least a gallon or two, simply to make sure they were flowing the additive.

I can understand why you don't want to unhook your car from the dyno, drive around and then set it up again. But are you sure what you propose will be a valid test? Imagine taking a paper cup filled with water, pouring a teaspoonfull of dye in, and punching a small hole in the bottom of the cup. How much colored water do you think will flow out at first?

The only way I can think of around that is to do the first run with the tank at low, then pouring the additive and enough gas to fill the tank. That will help mix the additive inside the tank, although that won't purge the fuel lines/pump between the tank and the engine. Plus I don't know how much additive needs to run through the engine before its full effects are felt.

this is only meant to be a temp. increase. basically putting octane booster in the tank before heading to the track. improves your numbers for one night to beat that 350z who got you last weekend. the company would love for you to put a bottle in at every fill up but its not needed.

iirc they used a Dogde Ram for the test. Dynoed it. Added the additive and drove it for 20 mins then tested again. The product is suppose to lower fluid temps and increase slipperyness.
