20+ HP from a sensor mod?

Saw this: sensor mod
on Ebay and thought some of you very knowledgeable members would know if it would work. Sorry if it has already been discussed.

from what i have read... this might be BS... it's fooling the computer to think it's in "heavier" load? wtf? and u'll gain 20HP from that....

20 safe HP for $8.99 , say that over and over a few times and see how silly that sounds.

Lets go over that listing again

"The item listed is specifically selected to work on the Vehicle manufacturer stated.
It is not a "One size fits all" item."

"This Sensor Replacement MOD is for a Mazda RX7/RX8"

(RX 7 have a lot in common with RX-8’s ha ha)

"It consists of a small electronic device that will be inserted between one of your car's sensor and the ECU"

(which one ?)

"Your vehicle must have fuel injection not for turbo , supercharged or diesel models"

( Yep this was written for the RX-8)

"it makes the reading of the computer shift to the right in the table"

( this guy should go help Canzoomer, he clearly knows more about the RX-8 ECU than the rest of the world)

"You can either buy an eprom chip"

(Again showing his RX-8 expertise)

"No tools or cutting required"

(Then how does that resistor get in-between the ECU and a sensor?)

"Each MOD is made for your make and model to replace your car's IAT sensor to tell your computer you are taking in COLD AIR"

(where can I find the IAT sensor? Does it mean the RX-8 gains 20 HP in the winter?)

The answer to your question was in the listing, It's a scam and he is counting on most people not wanting to spend the time trying to get back $10.00.

My thoughts were that it was a scam. Really only interested me as the seller's home is listed about 15 miles from where I live. My very limited knowledge of the electronics in the 8 made me smell somthing fishy from the start, I have a friend that races a vintage IMSA RX7 and I think I will give him a call tomorrow and see if he knows about the seller.

Just thought we might enjoy a topic other than gas milage.

You could start a thread about Snow Tires

I might just get one of those so I can post it here for laughs. I have wasted more than $10.00 on failed mods (non ECU) might save someone some $$$ by exposing it here.

HAHA, i don't think i've laughed that hard in a long time. It snowed when i was in vermont this week and i swore I toasted a hennessy viper, that 26 degree air sure gives the car some kick! :p

Guarantee!

For $4.50, half the price of the "sensor mod," I'll guarantee to double the actual horsepower benefit of the "sensor mod." PM for details. Or better yet, just send me your credit card information.

I'm guessing the mod is nothing more than a resistor you shove into the IAT sensor to manipulate the IAT readings.

The sensors used to work on older style vehicles which ran somewhat out of the A/F power band range (leaner). The resistors pushed the A/F mixture to a richer level by fooling the IAT sensor. So basically the cheap sensor makes your fuel mixture richer, which on alot of cars adds power.

Now take a look at your A/F ratio, and see if you want to make it "richer". Ya I didn't think so.

On the 6 this bumps the A/F to 9:1 (yup thats a single digit #) and throws cel codes. Total waste of money, and actually makes the car SLOWER, as well as throwing check engine lights.

Actually the more fuel the more your car starts to act like it's on choke. Your car makes more power the leaner it is. Which is what the CZ does - tells your car less air is entering, so it leans out the fuel.

Jason,

Its all about the optimal mix. Being leaner doesn't necessarily make more power...in fact being a little bit richer usually does. It all depends on the stock configuration of the vehicles maping.

Ex...13:1 can sometimes make more power then 13.5 or 14.0:1.

In the examples listed, Mazda 6 and Rx8, the stock A/F ratios are already excessively rich (beyond reasonable measures on the 6), and the IAT chip trick just seems to make the A/F richer.

Colder denser air means the car's gotta add more fuel, whether or not the air actually is colder or denser or not.

Btw the Mazda6 gains 20 whp from going from 9.7:1 at 6500 rpm to 13.5:1 .
