225whp n/a possible?

i read a post on here that 200whp was the most anyone here achieved n/a? isn't the stage 2 cz supposed to give like 40whp? i am deciding on buying a rx-8 but i was hoping to get atleast 225whp with bolt on's. is this possible? i was thinking straight pipe, catback exhuast and cz 2 tuned should get me close, am i wrong?

I saw a dyno sheet for a turbo kit that produced 360 whp. I nearly **** my pants. Then I sobered up when i saw the price for the kit.

Although I must admit, it isn't that bad and the boost was only 8psi and the upgrades were very minimal, intake and cat back and a steel cam shaft or something.

Anything is possible. At this current moment, with a renesis, no one has achieved 225 rwhp that I am aware of in street trim on a RX-8 and have a dyno reading to validate.

I don't think its possible for a while but don't let it discourage you, I think a final gear can really boost performance.

I'm sure it's possible, but a steel camshaft won't get you there :]

While you'are at it, getting that steel camshaft in there, you might want to try some forged rods and pistons.

Dont forget to bore it out while you're at it.

Wasn't there a completely stock RX8 making 205whp some place? I thought I heard about that and how people where confused why that person's 8 apparently showed 20 more whp than normal. If I remember right they thought it was because it was a newer 8 with the latest flash (don't know the letter).

IF true, that would mean 225whp NA is not impossible...just improbable on most RX8’s who dyno at 180-188whp.

My suggestion for you (which is also my plan for the moment) if you want to stay NA (I too would love to stay NA) is to let your 8 breath better all around.

REVi

Highflow cat (not midpipe unless you don’t care about a lot of noise)

Exhaust (I hear good things about the TurboXS)

Then cut weight on the rims, flywheel, and maybe pulleys (not underdrive since it cuts power to your accessories) . Also, if you can find any other place where it wont cost an arm and a leg to cut weight do that also.

Finally, there is the Inter-X PCM/ECU/piggy back/what ever which can gain you from 10-22whp (22 max but 10 across the rev range). Note: The Inter-X is pretty dang pricey, FYI, but there are several other possibilities in the works. Also…the Inter-X if you ever do want to go Turbo works very well.

All of the above should give you a significantly quicker RX8. No, you won’t be matching the Turbo guys but you should be able to slap around a completely stock 8.

I’m a newbie to all of this so don’t put too much stock on my post, but personally I think the above would give you extra whp and make your 8 quicker overall.

If the veteran modsters see something completely wrong or false in my post please let me know so I can learn and I don’t misguide anyone.

to much importance being placed on dyno numbers. drive the car --it will feel stronger than what a "dyno" says. Dyno's are good tools but dont get lost in the numbers. Our gang has one n/a car that with regular bolt ons is consistantley get 204hp and 144 tq. A couple in the 190's. Remember HP along doesnt guarantee performance. Sounds like you have had some car beasts so you know. 225 at the rear will probaly be gained by someone this year in a n/a form(with tuning) .

No point in teasing the guy about "camshaft" comments. Not everyone is familiar with the rotary and its internals. We all had to start learning from somewhere.

I'm curious to see when someone posts what a properly tuned and properly street ported Renesis can do.

i sold it so i can buy an 8. i was fully built with 62-1 turbo tuned with hondata. mine didn't break, i sold it running excellent for only $8000 because i fell in love with the 8's looks. but now i might be getting a g35. as far as the camshaft comment goes, i'm not that stupid. this would be my first rotary car but i do know the basics. i built my prelude myself.

I think they are actually in the 220's. I'm wondering how much more a port would help. If I could get 230whp+ with the help of a port, I'll go back to n/a.

There havent been many porting jobs yet. If i ever have to get a rebuild i will definetly get ported to some extent. Ill bet a good port would definetly yeild a few needed horses!
