Looks cool but probably handles like a T-Bird. Way too much weight up front.
But it does give me yet another alternative powerplant to consider for the 928 monster I'm playing with. Never thought about the Supra motor.

let me guess... then after the 1 dyno pull you do on race gas (and a half dozen other little tricks) to get that number, the car will never see more then 400hp so it has a streetable power curve -yawn-

A 20B is not almost 800 lbs. Not even close. Sorry. Wherever you read that, it's a misprint. The block itself is around 300 lbs or so. Give or take a few. Yes the intake weighs a bit. The turbos weigh a bit. The a/c compressor, brackets, waterpump, etc weigh a bit. The engine itself is not that heavy. For it's size it is and if it were aluminum it could lose 100 lbs or so easily. The cast iron V12 Audi twin turbo diesel in Europe (not the R10TDI racecar) is 710 lbs fully dressed. The 3 rotor isn't even in the same neighborhood as that.

I'd rather see an LS1/2/6/7 in the RX-8, but this is pretty cool too. My only real beef with the 2JZ is that the power from a large turbo comes in during the last few RPM's. The rest of the powerband is nowhere close...awful awful lag.
However, I'm still rooting for the swap to work out. That'll help gain respect for all the 8's out there.

Believe it or not engine swaps aren't pointless and sometimes yield better results than the original engine in most cases, just depends on what you're trying to accomplish. How much $ would it cost to get a renesis to over 400hp much less 900hp as the 2jz is easily capable of, (I know of several daily driven
2jz's here in town with over 800hp to the wheels alone) and how reliable do you think it would be? If you're wondering why people swap engines, just ask yourself that question next time.

Call me an underdog purist but that was why I got the car. It doesn't have the most power, it's not the fastest, etc. What's the point of winning if it's so overpowering that the most likely outcome is winning. There's no fun in that.
It's why I love my 1.3L NA gas guzzling rotary. It screams underdog ... makes it so much more fun when we win.
But I do like engine swaps (ones that are done really well). It's a good challenge in engineering and design. It's hard not to appreciate all that goes into.

Some time back I started a post talking about how the RX-7 owners would do 2JZ and SR20DET just like the 240 can hold the 2JZ. Then someone did a 20B in a RX-8. I knew it was only a matter of time.
Word has it the RX-9 or new RX-7 can hold a 20B if thats the case it can hold the 2JZ and a SR20DET. This is going to be cool.
