agreed, a 1200hp will be a boost lag monster, but 500-600hp will not be. The correct turbos and correct tuning will have plenty of early boost.

I'd like to see Rob Gonzales' 20B TiGrey 8 run again this 2JZ.

however, the author is quoted as saying it will be of the 1200 hp dyno queen variety everyone loves to mock...

Exactly. A friend of mine is putting 850HP down and runs low 11's on streets tires with no traction. On slicks he breaks things.

Mechanics install/swap engines... technicians and engineers design and install turbo/superchargers. If someone wants to impress me, put a 3.2 liter BMW M3 VANOS engine into an RX-8 and spin it to 8500 RPM (not hard to do with forged internals and better vaves). My friend's M3 puts down 315 to the rear tires, tested on a dyno and proven over about 50 dyno runs, on pump gas. It makes over 200 ft/lbs of torque from 2000 RPM until 7500 RPM, and weighs under 3000 lbs with an AutoPower roll bar installed. That's the sort of kick-*** violence I want under the hood of an RX-8!

Gentlemen,
Didn't mean to start a riot on here, sorry. This is kinda funny because this is exactly what happened on the S2000 boards after we dropped a 2JZ in the first S2000 ever. All we heard was how could you destroy one of the best handling cars on the road, we said "It was easy and we got paid very well to do it." This is not going to just be a Dyno Queen either, if you check out some YouTube vids you will see that there are plent of 9 second 2JZ Supra's.

Bryan, thanks for doing what you do. Hopefully by the time this project gets sorted out my car will be paid for and my son and I will be the coolest dudes on the block with a 2JZ powered 8.

The Supra may only run 11's, but try to take one anywhere but the track. I have rode in MANY fast cars and the Supra with Single turbo is A friend of mine has one with 860(dyno proven) to the wheels and a GM Turbo 400 Auto built by AAP motorsports. So far everything to try it has got See video here(not his car, but proves the point):

I was playing with a Supra on the bypass a couple of days ago. When he came off an exit ramp he saw me and punched it. All I could hear was an insanely loud spooling whistle and then a really strange rattling sound. The turbo was probably the loudest I've ever heard, my windows were up and I was in 4th gear at about 5k rpm, the turbo spool overpowered all wind noise and my exhaust note.

Talking about the turbo lag, with all that "drama" he didn't pull on me one bit?? It was rather strange. There is no doubt he could have eaten me alive, but I was surprised that with the obviously huge turbo spooling it gave him apparently no juice.

I was cruising at 6-7k rpm waiting for some fun, and even when he was trailing me and we were both punching it he really didn't make up any ground on me? I was staying between 7-9krpm most of the time, but damn I was expecting to have my doors blown off. (At least I got some carbon-burning in that day )

Somebody get a tuner to the Supra... he needs help... his boost is failing him...

All this big turbo stuff is useless if you don't have the proper tuning...

i believe you except for the part about it not being a dyno queen. So you are planning on running 1200 hp on the street?

1250hp??? Not with that turbo. Well unless you go crazy with the boost ofcourse. Good luck in your project. Even though I dont like it at all the fact that your taking away the essence of the rotary, I respect the fact that your doing something difrent and most of all you are sharing it with all of us. Keep up the good work. And for MAC11 I like how you think when you said about 20b rx8 vs 2JZ rx8. I'm ON

All you have to do is stay under 6000 RPM and its like driving a Hyundai Tiburon.

thats a hell of a curve right there.

771 Pounds???? you must be counting the driver on top of the engine. I recently brought one from PR and the whole engine COMPLETE plus a box full of the turbo components all in a Big *** Wood box (wich is about 80pound)didnt even make 600 pounds. Where did you get those numbers

different, but more than likely terrible weight distribution.

Roberto Gonzales

ran 10.2 WAAAYY back when he had like 700whp a lot less that what he has now (aroud 1100). Not a chance for this 2JZ

Face it guys, have you been to the track lately???? Rotaries OWN supras. Oviously when they are with similar specs. Dont pretend to be the master of the universe becouse someone beat a 350HP car with a 1200 hp car. We all know better than that.

I remember back in 2001 when Ari ran against a TRD 1000 rwhp supra driven by Rhys Millen. They hyped up that car at the track all day. Ari had roughly 620 rwhp btw. They both got to the finals and all the TRD guys were out in their cute little matching outfits hyping it up. Ari ran a 10.01. Rhys ran a second place 10.30. The TRD guys then cried foul and accused Ari of running drag slicks rather than DOT drag tires. When he got back around, they all saw his tires were fine and they just shut up. They made excuses for the loss of course.

Ari was running a stock ported Mazda remanufactured motor! It was controlled by a Haltech and I believe had a Greddy T-76 turbo. He was running 26 lbs of boost and a 75 shot of nitrous. He was then allowed to do an exhibition run to see if he could hit the 9's. I saw him literally pull a sandbag out of the spare tire well! He also changed the nitrous shot from progressive to full hit. He ran a 9.5X something. First time in the 9's and it was on an internally stock motor! That's what fantastic tuning can do.
