4" exhaust tips

Does anybody have 4" exhaust tips? I got some Magnaflow one's the other day, and they look kinda large. I am now a little hesitant about putting them on my car. I thought the borla etc.. had 4" tips.
I don't want my car to look like a ricer (or boy racer'ey), but the standard 3" tips look a little small.
Anybody??
Pics of 4" tips would help me make my decision (if anybody has any??).

Thanks.

I think the tips on the Borla RX-8 exhaust are 3.5" and the one on the Greddy are 4" if that helps.

I think everyone feels the Borla tips are perfectly fine. Most people think the Greddy are fine as well. Some do think the Greddy are a little big.

The stock tips are 3". I just installed these 3.5" and I think they are perfect.
I test fitted 4" and I thought they looked ridiculous.
The Greddy exhaust looks too big IMHO.

It's amazing how much difference 1/2" makes isn't it? I've got to admit that the 3 1/2" tips do look slightly better than the 4" tips in the pictures, but it isn't 'black and white'.
As I already have the 4" tips, I think I will try them now. :o I think I am now ready to take the risk , and I can always change to 3 1/2" ones (or buy another cat-back if these look OTT).

Thanks for your help guys.

Me? I just have tips. I didn't want any more noise and I don't need any more flow.
The stock exhaust is quite good once you get rid of the catalytic converter, which I did with Vivid Racing's BB midpipe.
It was just too buzzy, so I installed a resonator and these resonated 3.5" tips.
Now it sounds pretty good and I only spent $40 instead of $500+ on a cat-back.

Hi Jeff, How do you get thru the local required emissions test?

Anyone know what size the Racing Beat tips are?

I pass by showing up.

All they do now in Maryland is hook up to the OBD port and look for a code.
No treadmill and no sniffer on cars built after 1996.

Since I have no codes, I have no emissions issue. I won't have to worry about it for 3 years, anyway.

They do look under the car with a mirror and check for an OEM gas cap, but I have a heatshield for the midpipe that looks like a cat just for that reason.
I have the exact same arrangement for my Miata which passed emissions easily in April.

The RacingBeat cat-back has 4" tips.

Slick If they did the treadmill test, do you think it would pass?

Do you have to hand your Miata keys over to the kids doing the test? My friend who has a Corvette says he never gives them the keys, he sits in the car and does the driving on the treadmill during the test.

I just have the Magnaflow 4" double walled stainless tips. As far as I'm concerned, there's nothing wrong with the standard muffler as it's got pretty good flow, and I have a C.Z. Mid-Pipe + Cat on order for my hp increase.

I'll post some pics when I'm done... :D

Yes. I had it "sniffed" after-hours when I first installed the midpipe.

They wanted to, but I refused. They started to say something about safety regulations, but then I pointed out that the guy in the adjacent lane was doing it. Of course, all I had to do was pull the car up. They plugged in the OBD-II connector and hit the space bar on their PC.
The car was just idling for that.

They are stainless, resonated, rolled-tip pieces I got from Pep Boys. $20 each.
I think they are "3A Racing", but I'm not sure.

MazdaManiac,
Since you are using the stock exhaust, how did you removed the stock tips. Did you have a muffler shop remove the stock and install the aftermaket ones? How long are those tips?
thanks.

I just pulled off the plastic surround pieces (the ones that the exhaust finishers are attached to) and cut the factory tips off with a air-powered cutoff tool.
Then, I welded the new tips in place.

Mine is the biggest :D Maybe over 4". Not so bad, because it is slightly shaped, not just a big pipe!
