AEM air bypass valve

Before I put down my questions I have searched and read lots of things about the AEM intake and what the bypass valve does.

What I want to know is if anyone uses the bypass valve. Does it worth spending $50 for it or just stick with the sock? Further, I read the installation guidelines for the bypass valve and they are a bit confusing to me. Where exactly are you supposed to place the bypass valve (after the first pipe you put on or the second one)? Further, AEM states that to fit the valve you have to cut the inlet pipe...

Here is a link of the valve:http://www.aemintakes.com/search/pro...x?Prod=20-403s and here is the installation guidelines: http://www.aemintakes.com/instructio...ypass_inst.pdf (I wish they had more pictures)
Is it the three inches one we are supposed to get?

Sounds like more of a pain than it's worth. Your not planning on driving through 2 feet of water are you? If not then don't bother with it.
I had an AEM and never had an issue with water ingestion from rain, and it pours down here some times. Now a fellow at a car wash directly sprayed my intake filer one time and that got the MAF wet. But a couple of minutes later it was dry.

AEM quote,,
"Under normal driving conditions the Air Bypass Valve will eliminate the chance of water ingestion."

Hmmm.

Never do automatic car wash. If you have a CAI the best thing you can do is to wrap a plastic bag around the filter and handwash the car.

I'd rock it for peace of mind
http://www.modified.com/tech/0104scc...lve/index.html

^^ they used to have a video of this, the water starts going up into the intake at full throttle but never makes it to the bypass valve (valve opens and the water stays away from the intake). I'll post the vid if I find it

So, I just ran into this issue with my AEM, we have been having some crazy rain and wind the last couple days and today I went to start the car to go to lunch and found it not wanting to start then she blew smoke for a moment before coming down and running fine. Still feels like she's lagging a bit. So when I got home to eat I felt the AEM filter and the things was dripping wet, screen bag and all. Now this seems like a good idea suddenly haha.

Oh, and when I say crazy I mean we've been having 40-50mph winds (saw up to 70mph a bit ago) and we're in a moderate flood warning (flood stage is 8ft and we're at almost 11ft and climbing). Thankfully it's lightening up as the day goes on lol.

The problem with this AEM bypass valve for our car is where to put it. You can't fit it behind the bumber (I think this is where it is supposed to go) neither close to the throttle body. I would just suggest you when it rains and your car is parked to wrap the filter with a plastic bag. Becareful not to forget it though

I've only every used the filter sock and I've never had a problem even in really nasty rain storms, and my intake is fully exposed behind the grille of the Veilside front bumper.

True, the last rubber LOOKS like the bypass valve. It does not do though what the valve intends to do

I DD my 8 and have had zero issues starting/ driving my 8 in the CO winters! I even take my 8 through touchless car washes (every couple of weeks as shell offers free washes when you fill up there; for military.)

I have had it on for two winters...
