AFE Short Shifter Problem

Lets see, I installed it about 3 weeks ago and you can DEFINITLY tell a difference. for some reason my reverse has started sticking this past week. About 1/3 of the time I try to stick it in reverse it either won't budge into gear at all or it goes half way in and i hear a ZzzZzZz of my gears trying to change. After the ZzzZzzZ sound i take it out of gear then put it back in and it works perfectly. Oh and I noticed on the times it won't go in at all, if i roll back in Neutral like half a foot then stick it in then it goes in fine. is my gear not lining up? I'm positive the install was perfect and it worked fine the first 2 weeks or so. Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.

That happens sometimes. It even happens with the stock shifter sometimes too. Mine does it occasionally. Once it happens a few times, you'll probably get the feel for it. I can typically tell when it's not in gear. I just put it in first and then it slides right into reverse on the next try. It's not really something that can be fixed as far as I know... it can be annoying when you get that loud buzz from missing the gear, but I've just come to accept that it happens sometimes.

or just put it in neutral and let the clutch out and try again. that tends to do it..

I just installed the AF shifter and it hasn't happened on mine. Ever, even when I had the stock shifter on there for the past three years.

However, thinking about it, it does happen on the wife's Forester, especially shifting into reverse about half the time.

it never did it with my stock one either. i mean i can get it to go into gear most the time. sometimes it just sticks so i was seeing if I could fix it. but by the sound of it i'll just deal with it and work around it. thanks guys.

what he said. You have to be at a complete stop when you go into reverse and you have to push the clutch in completely or you will run into these problems... just a manual trans thing.

thats obvious. I assumed that you would all know I was at a complete stop and that my clutch was completely pushed in. I thought that was common sense but i'll specify next time. I don't understand what the point of google searching it would be when I have direct access to a website of drivers with my exact car who have had the exact same problem as me. No need for you guys to assume that I don't know how to drive a clutch. It was a simple question, needed a simple answer and I got it. Thanks to all that helped.

It does happen even with the stock shifter but I think it's more pronounced with the AFE.

Sorry but its not obvious...
Many people post questions without either enough info or like you, assuming that everyone knows what you can and cannot do.

If thats not the correct answer for you maybe someone else can help you, but trust me, that could be the right answer for someone else.

Try not to take things so personally.

and yet you have given little info..

maybe year mileage. if or when the clutch was replaced.. you have a white car so it is least a 05.. and common sense says its a six speed..

that is more info than you took the time to put out there..

btw.. it very well could be a very slowly failing clutch pedal, i would bet money on that first..

and dont recall anyone having the exact problem as you, and why would we assume you know how to drive a clutch when you gave little info about the issue?

what rubs me is that this is not a shifter issue, you blame a good product. and you mention you had the same problem with the stock.

just saying..

now copy and paste to google.

clutch pedal issues

beers

I never had the problem with the stock shifter, but I understand a few have. I LOVE my AFE SS and wasn't intending to blame the shifter. just simply needed more info or advice. Thanks guys.
