afe ss question
hey guys, got a question about the afe ss. after you installed it is it siginifantly shorter than the oem one? when i bought my car i noticed the shifter was much shorter than oem. i drove a stock 8 earlier this week and it felt like i was shifting a rig. i know that mines not the stock height but i havent taken it apart to check whats actually in there. also when i first got my car i had mazda give me a new tranny due to bad synchos cause it was under 50k. when they put in the new trans the tech mentioned that my shifter was much shorter and not stock. btw i still use the oem shift ****. anyone got pics of the afe before and after install? how much shorter was it? i would say mines at least 2" shorter than oem

Sounds close.
I know it's shorter....not sure how much?
We know the throw is shorter(that's the purpose), but I also think it's not as tall.............Not sure about two inches though.
Looking at the pic below, it looks shorter, but also notice where the shift **** threads stop on both, looks like it sits further down as well.
From the Axialflow site............."We concentrate on "feel" or "quality" of the movement. Typically there is a reduction in the height of the **** for a better ergonomic relationship with the driver".
Should be able to tell by just looking under the boot.
AFE SS on the left, stock on the right!
Here's the DIY to install, it might help you if you want to go further to discover what it is.

As far as I know, it's the only one...................not 100% sure however.
It is the only one I would trust, that's for sure!
I'll see if I can find a pic of mine.
A lot of people of course put aftermarket shift ***** on, but mine is standard size although it's illuminated.
