Aftermarket Exhaust

Aftermarket Exhaust
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I want an aftermarket exhaust, but I can't see paying the $600-$1000 clams to have it done. I went to a local muffler shop with a picture of the some of the aftermarket systems and depending on which muffler I chose I could get the system for under $400.

Good luck. There are some very nice exhausts that are around $525-$600. if you want to save $100 & have it sound like crap go ahead. Or for $100 just gut your stock exhaust. I would rather spend $600 and get a quality product from Racing Beat, Borla or Greddy that is made for my car, rather than one of these universal mufflers that sounds like a fart can driving down the street.

Junk.....
....and for those prices you won't be looking at aircraft-quality stainless either, so you will get to buy another, real soon!
My Borla was $500 and change, stainless, fits like a glove and sounds great.
Ask 'Mr Midas' what HE would charge for a million mile warranty?

Realize that the brand name exhausts are tuned for performance & sound via trial & error. The stock system is pretty darned good on both accounts. Something thrown together as a look-alike by a muffler shop will flow worse than stock (less HP) and who knows how it will sound. If you just want looks, have them install bigger tips. If it's sound, search around here for feedback and get a decent $500 dollar set-up. For performance, leave it alone and spend the money elsewhere.

G-Rex, I tend to agree with you. The car sounds good as is. I was just thinking about the aftermarket exhaust and wanted some input. I think maybe the Canzoomer would be a better place to spend the money?
BTW - sticker on my 8 was 31.8K purchased with less that 50 miles on it

Your point was made, then refuted above
Exhaust sound is mostly the result of the muffler - it's not rocket science to create a cat-back - round, mandrel bends are round, mandrel bends, regardless of who makes them.

tru.. its the muffler . that gives the "tuned sound"
its pretty simple.. larger diameter mandrel bent pipes ... for better flow=power.. and a "tuned muffler" to give it te brands signature exhaust note.
and obviously different engines and sizes create different sounds.. pretty simple...
if your exhaust shop is reliable. and ofers warranty go for it... bend some 2.5 or 3" stainless.. and then choose the best free flowing universal muffler for the application.. it could be name brand or not...with an exhaust note you like..my preference is borla..
you save money and at the same time you get a replica of a BRAND named exhaust...

You have no idea what he's even thinking of doing, or what mufflers he wants to use, so to say it will sound like crap just because it's custom and not from some company with a jacked up price is idiotic.
This is why companies charge so much for exhaust systems on new cars, people believe that the price means it is the perfect and nothing could be better. News flash custom works just as well, can sound just as well with proper mufflers, and is a lot cheaper.
