To all turbo RX8 ownners:
I was just wondering how your cars are holding up with your turbo installed? How many miles do you have on the clock? And how long has it been in your car? I am curious because I am saving up on getting one myself but just want to know roughly how long our cars will last with a turbo....Thanks a bunch

How long it will last is a huge open-ended variable.
It's like asking us when you are going to die. We have no clue. It depends on variables.
If you take care of the car, don't push it too hard, have it tuned right, ect, it can last as long as you want it to.

I kno what u mean...if your car has a good tune, then the car "should" last a while and if its a bad tune, ur SOL. Where I'm coming from is that I am a college student and don't really have 6k bucks laying around me to just spend. I love the maz and I think it will be a really cool car if I go FI but I don't wanna spend that kinda dough then the car die on me few months down the road

He had about25-30k boosted i think but he just replaced his engine do to an oil leak(nothing to do with the turbo) I think that mazdamaniac actually has the same or more miles on his but I may be mistaken about that.

I don't think you'll get over 50k miles with a turbo.
Having said this, the MM GReddy upgrade w/Cobb Accessport might change that, since it changes the target maps in the ECU so you'll 'chase' a tune and have less chance of grenading your engine.
Anyway, I aske the same question several months ago and got very few useful answers...a lot of haters and a few Amens! but so far ZERO people running a turbo 8 for a lot of miles...certainly nothing close to 100k.

Like Brettus says you have to play to pay going turbo can be fun but also a headache before you even think about doing it make sure you have a good shop that has done Turbo installs on the RX8 if they do I would ask to get in touch with the person and see if they are happy with the work. Sound like a waste of time but take my advice it can save you a lot of money. With that being said I have had a Turbo on my RX8 for 2 years the power is wonderful but had alot of issues getting up up and running. The first shop did not know what they were doing had my car for 3 months. I have about 40k about 15k is after the Turbo. To do it all over again..... I wouldn't save yourself from wasting a lot of money and headaches unless money is not an option and you have your self a tuner that knows the rotary engine
just my 2cents

A turbo RX-8 is nothing to enter into lightly, so do your research and make the decision that is best for you. I was once told that you have no business venturing into aftermarket forced induction unless you are prepared emotionally and financially to replace a motor.

thanks guys, I appreciate all the reply's on this topic. I guess I'll just have to chase the dream a little bit later down the road. lol
if I were to get a turbo, I don't think that I would want to just "play it safe"... where is all the fun in that?

listen to the people who have teh FI in their 8, they know what they are talking about. if you wanna go to FI, make sure that you do it right, it's not cheap for sure. if you install the turbo, and you boost it everyday, 7 days a week, and hard drive it, i believe it will fail faster, engine and turbo. but, make sure you have a saving when you go to FI. before i go to FI, i pm'ed people who have their 8 turboed, like mysql, tommy, mazsport, etc to find some knowledge. it's just advice.
