another AxialFlow shifter deal

Slightly off topic but... when I had the ashtray pulled I found a spring similar to an old clothespin spring down in there. It prolly goes to the ashtray door (mine kind of just flops open & closed) but I didn't see how to re-attach it. Any thoughts?

my ashtray pod is sitting in my garage. I can look at it tonight to see if mine has a spring in it anywhere.

Cheeto, first do you have an aftermarket ****? If so go back to stock.
Did you trim or remove the green fuzzy thing? If not, do so.
Do you have your hand on the shifter when you hear the noise?
Take your hand off.
Other then that you might just be listning to hard.
It shouldn't be much louder then stock and with ambiant noise shouldn't be a bother.
I don't think anything happened to your trans from the SS, it doesn't effect anything but leverage during gear changes.
If it bothers you to much send it back. Just wait until after you drive with the stock one for a day.

The ss does transmit more noise from the transmission into the car since it's a one piece which is different then the stock ones where there's rubber in there to suppress the noise. I can say our transmission are pretty noisy.

Got my SS this week and put it in today. What a difference it makes. Tight, notchy, bolt action short shifts. Reverse works better than stock. Sounds a little different between gears when clutch is depress but not in a bad way. Love this thing. I did break the infamous tab. Sure I'm not the only one. I pried on that tab till my fingers were sore. It'll be easier to get off the next time.

Well it's done. Came today and installed in no time. Yep. I broke that little tab on the console. Small price to pay for the nicest shifting RX8 in my area!
The shifts are tight with no slop in neutral. All of the gears work flawlessly including reverse.
In summary, the AFE short shifter is a quality product that lives up to the hype. Thanks Richard!!!
