another Exhaust thread. (yea i searched)
so i finally gave in to the mod Bug again. first it was my FC now its with the SE.....so then i already order the AEM / MazdaSpeed CAI should be here tomorrow. now im looking at doing a exhaust system i realize in not going much power out the car but i want to extract as much of it as i can without doing forced induction, nitrous or tear apart the motor for porting (even tho i really really want to port it). i was looking single exit exhaust like the HKS Hi Power and the Race Roots exhuast (leaning more towards the RR because its cheaper and pretty much the same thing from what i can tell) but i was also considering doing a custom exhaust system so i drove over to my buddies muffler shop and he quoted me about 180$ but they wanted to use a Magnaflow muffler with fiber glass packing so i just told them id think about. so now im still on square one my question is this tho with the HKS and RR exhaust system being roughly 3" piping that would cause me to lose power in the lower rpm range but gain some in the higher rpm range what size piping would be a good balance between the two i thinking about 2.75inch? im also looking to reduce weight so materials is also a question here but nothing bank breaking like Titanium needs to be decently priced.

i kinda figured id be flamed so i dont mind i just want to try to figure this out i know the gain in hp is tiny if any but it would still be nice to do it right.

i have searched i really cant find the thread that speaks about what pipe size will work best for the car and as for the fiber glass packing i read from a couple of the threads that it deteriorates over time from the heat of the 8's exhaust which causes it to get progressively louder.

yea i kinda searched the whole day...and nothing came up...just alot of threads talking about the hks or turboxs or the greddy sp2 exhaust systems etc etc etc....and some other i cant remember......some said that 3" piping is to large saying it cause people to lose power in the lower rpm range wile gaining some up top wile the rest of the other threads ive seen even spoke about the sound of the exhaust or the preference of the exhaust style (single or twin) so yea.....i havent really found much considering i went as far back to find the thread where borla was considering making headers for the 8 but canceled it because there wasnt much power to gain and it wouldnt have sold well....so yea.........ive searched
