(me)I went in and asked how much will u intall a clutch and flywheel for

(guy at shop)he said on what car

(me) I said a 2005 mazda RX-8

(guy at shop) said a rx-7

(me) I said RX-8

(guy at shop) said FWD or RWD

(me) I said RWD

(gut at shop) said FWD

then he quoted me $285 I laughed and walk out and said he won't be getting my business.. living in az it hard to find good quality work that people actually know how to work on this car.without going hella far out to get work done

Asking in your regional section might be better for responses.

what's the name of the shop?

If you want a good place goto Berge Mazda in Gilbert. I know it's a stealership but us AZ'ers have a good friend there- Karl Wehrle. Ask for Vince as the service manager and then ask for Karl to be the only one to touch your car. Tell him Dave sent ya

backyard mechanic or do it yourself for free. $250 is probably the cheapest most shops will charge.

Under No circumstances should you call Vivid. They are an absolute disaster.
In fact, if you have to drive up Country Club/Arizona Ave, take a detour a few blocks west so you don't even have to drive near the place.

Berge Mazda and Karl FTW. It won't even be close to $600.
Really, you should just post up in the RCCAZ chat thread and we can set up a mod meet with the other '8 owners and install it as a group. Karl comes to those things, too.
No labor charge and a lot more fun.

Mazda labor for a clutch swap is 6.5 hrs, plus the flywheel

most dealerships are $90+/hour now

Did you even read the thread before you posted this?

Once again DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, CALL VIVID RACING!

Really, Jon - It isn't exactly a glowing endorsement of your shop that you would suggest Vivid Racing.

This would be my suggestion also. I'm sure there are plenty of 8 owners in Arizona who would love to help drop a tranny and replace the clutch and Flywheel. Most it would cost you is the food and beer.

We love that sort of stuff.
We have mod meets pretty regularly, even if the weather is a bit on the hot side.
In the past several weeks, we've seen coil-overs, sways, body kits, vertical doors, HIDs, springs, shocks, carbon hoods with pins, SS brake and clutch lines and all kinds of other mods go into 3s, 6s, 8s and Protes. Sometimes, we'll do 2 or 3 cars at a time.
Last night, we were pulling an engine from Karl's P5 to transplant into another P5 with a 5-speed.
The cost is your labor, some food or drink and whatever humor you can muster!

it only cost $600 if you pay through the shop. Karl does it in his spare time for much cheaper, just at the dealership.

But yeah, you can bring it buy a mod meet and we can through it on. But you gotta swing by to some others. It's kinda like those "Give a Penny, Take a Penny" cups at the quickie marts. It's best to leave a few pennies (in this case, help someone else out) first before taking a penny (working on your car). Unless, of course, you bring plenty of food and beer.

I wil be in AZ every few weeks until I move my family there. Any of the AZ people know when I am around as we get together whenever I am in town. If I am not needed for the tranny work I can always do nitrous and continue "alpha-testing" the Pettit S/C kit. Plus, just about anything else you'd want done.

Okay, First off my name is Karl and I work at Berge mazda. A few of you are having a hard time grasping the fact that if I do a job for someone on MY DAY OFF You will not pay DEALERSHIP PRICES!!!!!!!.

Second of all if you hate your car then go ahead and take it to Vivid racing cause they will find some way to **** up your car and make you pay for it.

Third If you are interested in me installing a clutch for you send me a PM and I guarantee I will not charge you much for the job and the job will be done right.

Since when did Karl start farming out his customers to Paradox? I don't even have my new house yet?

BTW, how was the car show, get-together, whatever it was?

I had a chat with the finance guy from the builder we are going with and everything is shaping up nicely. Yeah, I am off-topic but so what? It's late. Anyway, there are so many options available to help me get out there that I just need to take care of a few legal issues here in MI and I am on my way. Next Friday is my last day at Ford. Every time I feel the least bit apprehensive or hesitant to make this huge change I just think about how much I hate my job and the company I work for......and the choice is made much easier.

Other way around. Dave was pointing folks to Paradox and I am pointing them at Karl.

Oh, I see. Throw me a chop-block before I even get out there permanently why don'tcha? I really don't care if it is me or Karl or anyone else I trust around here doing the job as long as our fellow forum members get good labor for a good price. There is a lot of work to go around, anyway. From now on I'll send my tune jobs to......oh Hell, I don't know. JK.
