I'm not sure if you are familiar with Top Gear, which is the only "no bullshit" car show out there, but this should make u feel a bit better. For every car they review they put a professional driver in it and test it on their track. In the hands of a professional driver the RX-8 had the exact same lap time as 2004 M3 and 350z, all on dry track conditions.

Besides the quick confidence boost, you'll most definitely need a turbo/supercharger/nos to beat a 350z in a straight.

It think it's a rite of passage on the RX8club forum that if you have more than a 50 post count, you have to have seen that episode of Top Gear. It's been referenced so many times in the old 350Z vs RX8 thread battles here that it's almost cliche nowadays. Good first post, though! Welcome to the forum!

Lots of fail in OP's post. The Z has too much torque for just about anything stock on the road in similar price range.

Just suck it up or switch cars. You can mod the 8 but you'll have to pay for it.

I have a guy a work that just got a "Z", he keeps wanting to race.. i dont understand why, i tell him it would be a waste of both our times, stock for stock you will pull away. so why even bother.

"just to see" is what he says. Why beat on my car to KNOW that ima loose... Everyone around here wants to race my rx8, and its just not made for straight line racing...

The original 350Z wasn't all that powerful as the later HR and RevUp editions. If you were up against one of those older ones driven by a fat woman, the RX-8 might stand a chance.

In my opinion, the easiest way to increase 0-60 speed is to install lighter and smaller wheels. But the RX-8 stock wheels are pretty light already and the front brakes on the MT models won't allow for 16" and smaller wheels to be installed.
Next up is using a shorter rear diff gear.

Why beat them when you could demolish them? Who said overkill is a bad thing?

I swapped my 8 in for a 335i. I've got all bases covered for now, unless they build a 500Z!

Speed cost money, how fast do you wanna go?

You can probably beat a Z in a road coarse that involves lots of repeatedly heavy braking assuming its stock, otherwise...

Assuming theres lots of corners and a decent amount of braking the 8 should... ... .......... Eventually..... Catch.... up.... but it would have to have hardly any straights or very short ones where the Z couldnt use all that HP he's got...

Ever since I drove the demo and ordered my one I was thinking - was I really imagining the car is super awesome in corners, but really average in straight line race - clearly I'm not the only one to fall in love with it..........and straight line racing is for idiots anyway.
Carve em up, carve those corners up.
