AP Midpipe+Stock Exhaust

I just installed the Agency Power midpipe, and when I first started it up it didn't sound too different from stock. As soon as I gave it some gas though, you can definitely tell the difference.

I wanted the exhaust to be a bit louder, but I never expected the midpipe alone to be this loud. I had gutted the cat about a month ago and have been running that, so I thought the midpipe would sound about the same, maybe a bit deeper or something because of the resonators. It really sounds like I have a catback now.

The fitment wasn't that great. I'm wondering if there's a possible exhaust leak. I had to pull the muffler side of the exhaust up to the end of the midpipe, as there was a good inch or so gap between them. I can't tell for sure, but the top of where it joins may be leaking, I'm thinking.

So, I'm wondering what other people have experienced from a midpipe with the stock exhaust? I like the sound, its nice and mellow, I'm just worried its louder than it should be. Any ideas?

it will most defeninatly be louder around the middle of the car and it will sound like it is almost coming from your shifter... try insulating beneath the panels around the shifter with dynomat.. this worked very well for me

The sound isn't a problem though, I like it. I'm thinking there's a leak. I know its probably uncommon for people to keep the stock exhaust when getting a midpipe, I've really only seen one thread on here mentioning it, and the guy said a midpipe with stock muffler was still "silly quiet." I'm trying to find out if anyone else has done this, and how loud it was for them.

The sound is really smooth and mellow until about 4000-4500 rpm. In there, its like a "bwaaaahh" if you know what I mean. All below and above that is smooth mellowness lol.

I have another question. Does anyone know what the Agency Power catback and midpipe can compare to for loudness? I mean, my friend has a Mustang GT with headers, X pipe, and Loudmouth exhaust, and that is LOUD. I can't imagine the Renesis being this loud. Is there anything that can kinda compare?

^sort of off topic but I"m looking at the AP midpipe. How do you like it does it seem to be made well? I have the OBX exhaust which basically sounds close to stock so i'm looking for some more noise but not crazy raspy but want it to actually sound like a rotary and still not have a drone? thanks

Yeah, it looks to be really good quality. Its pretty thick metal and the welds looked great. Like I said, I did have a bit of an issue fitting it onto the muffler side of the exhaust, but with a catback it might not be too bad. It doesn't seem raspy at all, but I do have the stock muffler, so I can't tell for sure. It definitely is louder though, even with the stock muffler. I've decided that it might seem a bit louder on mine because of the airbox mod I've done.

It does seem to drone a bit, but nothing horrible. Just cruising, you can hear it, but it doesn't interfere with music or talking at all. My wife doesn't mind it, which should say something lol.

I've read that some other midpipes are a bit deeper, but this one is great. It definitely sounds best at 7000-9000 though!

I have this pipe with a borla exhaust and it sounds great!...except for the little bit of raspiness from 3500-4000 rpm. Other than that it has been a great mod. The only problem that I had with mine was the hanger weld cracked and I had to have it re-welded.

I never thought about using the mid pipe with stock mufflers, I am using the AP cat-back part with stock mid-pipe and it sounds great, sound a little like a stock Porsche 911 but louder, but not even close to obnoxious.

Did you have the midpipe too? I keep trying to convince myself to get this catback too, but I'm just worried its too loud. I live in a tiny German town, and the Germans really don't like loud cars too much lol. If you did have the midpipe, was it just stupid loud, or was the sound worth the loudness?

thread revival! This is exactly what I was looking for. I think a midpipe on a stock system would sound awesome. I just need to know if you get flames!

Thread revival lol! Supbad, I've been told I shoot flames, and I can definitely hear the backfires when I shift hard lol. As for a video, I can try, but my camera isn't the best. It does sound really good now that its broken in, its nice and mellow and a bit louder than stock.

I just installed a single resonated CorkSport midpipe with my stock cat back and it sounds great, not loud just deeper than stock and seems to let the car rev quicker. I am wondering though if it will get a little louder after it is "broken in". Oh yeah how long does it usually take to get a CEL ? I have put like 50 miles on mine with no light which I thought was kind of strange.

Better shave your head and start working out Vin because with almost any exhaust on your 8 your gonna be screamin at 9000 rpms!

Up until last weekend I ran my SR motorsports catless, non resonated mid pipe with my stock exhaust and it sounded great (the way it should have from the factory). I am now running that mid pipe with the HKS single side and it is louder than hell.
