Talking Automatic transmission fluid cooler = A cool stick?

I think I have seen this before but I am not sure it has been talked about. I recently spoted one in the REV magazine (Japan).

I think it is a nice idea. But the problem is the one I have seen (Plot) is designed to be installed at the right hand side (where US OEM 2nd oil cooler is). I doubt US people will take the oil cooler for a AT cooler.

On the other hand, JDM, Oz and Europe model could consider this :p.

http://www.plotonline.com/products/atfcooler/index.html

Yen 39,900 from Plot Japan.

What do you think? since this is the first time I have seen such a product for road cars.

Who cares about an automatic transmission cooler, it's not as if they can drive their underpowered 8 as hard as we can?

The important question remains, can we get a manual transmission cooler?

There is not much stress in even on track in manual tranny compare with the automatic tranny.

I doubt an cooler for transmission will be of any realistic benefit. Just change to a better fluid (Gomez used Motul so I will follow soonish).

It is a good suggestion for AT RX-8 out there. It is real heating even in congested freeway. Please consider other people

Heat is the #1 killer of ATX's. A cooler run in-line with the factory radiator cooler should be one of the first mods to an ATX car. Basically doubles to triples the longevity of the transmission for about 45-50 USD.

You can't put a normal ATX type plate cooler on an MTX...there isn't any fluid pump. The gears just sit in the oil...it isn't really circulated in the same way an ATX fluids are. Want to cool down an MTX? Switch to synthetic.

You mean manual fluid being synthetic... I thought most transmission oil are synthetic.

Redline is synthetic right? I might go for it next time then.

now now... let's behave.

Have you actually driven the automatic nojooc. Don't just speak without backing up facts. AT RX-8 is not THAT bad....

It is still a 4 port Renesis.

Yes....and I was bitterly disappointed.
Autos only work on big displacement high torque motors..... even then, very boring.

So you agree that it is BAD, but only to a certain degree.

Generally they are semi-synthetic. I wouldn't be surprised if the 8 had synthetic fluids in stock...but then if it did, why would everyone report all sorts of benefits when shifting to the synthetic fluids?

Thats usually the first hint its not syn.

The only bad thing about the AT is not the 4 port engine but the AT itself. 4 gears with no selection of the 1st over 40km/h is a slight disappointment... I think people attitude towards the AT will change if they have a close gear (even like the Honda Jazz 7 speed ;P).

Please, lets not turn this thread into another MT v's AT and perhaps make it alittle more informative of the subject at hand.

On that note, then is the 4 gear AT worth the ATF cooler then????

Since it is SOOOOO tall - will it be under less stress then the other cars?

Takashashi,

Highway driving isn't very stressful on the ATX...its stop and go that usually spikes the temps really high. The constant shifting produces heat from the clutch packs engaging/disgaging...or something like that.

no one said anything, so...

the US 4-port car only has one oil cooler(driver's side), so this would work for us too.

I changed to Red Line... I noticed no difference at all. And if anyone wanted it to work, it was me...I paid fifty dollars for the stuff .

Interesting thread.

I think with Cold Air Intake, ATF cooler and changing transmission fluid, and changing the rev limiter to 9k to 10k that the RX-8 Auto should give times that rival the M/T RX-8, if not better than some (who don't know how to shift at a pro level).

Also, a 2nd oil cooler would be a nice mod to add, while your at it.

did you just bump a two year old thread?

the mt has more hp. also if youre talking about the 06 autos, the mt will have more hp due to the loss in the transmission is lower in the mt than the a/t. those mods wont make up for the lack of hp.

also the redline cant be moved up that much because the a/t rev limit is set by the restrictions of the torque converter. i think....

also any one who can shift decently should be able to shift faster than the a/t could.
