Awww... No Flowmaster...

I have loved Flowmaster exhausts in all my other vehicles, so I called the R&D department about how to get my vehicle in for them to produce a kit, and the head of R&D told me that he doubts there will ever be a kit... which is sad news for me. =(

He said the amount of heat that the rotary engines produce would kill their systems, and they just arent planning on making anything for that.

I guess its a good thing I found out before I went to a local shop to have them try to retrofit one on... wait a minute, why would the heat kill the flowmaster and not other mufflers?

because they are lazy and don't want to develop on for a relatively small demographic. (just my thoughts on why, nothing more than speculation though).

Good question.

If that guy was talking about the cat that would make sense. I'm no automotive expert, but I thought the muffler just muffles the sounds with either noise muffling material (I don't know what its called) or a noise resonator that cancels most of the sound that is carried with the exhaust gases.

Ok I just read something from googling. Heat shields are usually put up to protect heat sensitive areas of the car. Such as gas tanks, car floor, maybe some eletricals. But from what I read, putting on an exhaust is ok if there is enough shielding from the heat.

So if you can fabricate some kind of good heat shield that would go above the exhuast there shouldn't be any problems.

they mean they are worried about the heat killing their mufflers not the heat from the exhuast damaging anything. ducky have you thought about asking them? 1-800-544-4761 sales and tech support.

some noise muffling materials are up to dealign with the hi exhuast gas temps of a rotary- however i dont think they use those materials- judging solely from info on their website

And I Quoth the RnD....

"Adam, the problem that we've had in the past is from the high exhaust
heat created by the rotary design. This heat is generated because of the
rotary cycle and the overlap flow of fuel and air through the engine.
When the engine fires on the power rotation the surface area of the
combustion space is very large. When the exhaust port opens, the
combustion gasses are still burning, and the remainder burns in the
exhaust system. This is where the heat comes from. Long term exposure to
this high heat compromises the structure of our muffler causing the
internal parts of the muffler to fail.

As I said before, we do not recommend using our product on a rotary type
engine. Yes, people have built systems that have lived, but this has
been through many designs and trial and error."
