I just recieved and installed mine yesterday. Works smooth, and no prob getting into reverse. I do hear a "whine" when accelerating hard. haven't found a good explanation for it though. I do hear that this "wining" noise is not uncommon. The noise is not that bad, but I would like to know what is causing it.......

I don't think it gets easier when broken in. There may well be a smoothing the pivot surfaces but the base size is too small to feel. There may be a factor in that oil will replace the installation greese after a short while. This could feel different with the better oils. I don't have it in mine but they speak highly of that purple stuff.

I am going to try that tomorrow. I can't see how less insulation can take away a noise, but I'll try it! Out of curiosity...... did you try the shifter with the green/yellow material installed? Or did you remove it before installing it?

Someone on the other site thought that the material of the bulb that goes into the gear box is made of a different material and may be the cause. That sounds somewhat reasonable. This site is the best for really technical questions. Anyone know if that piece is made of a different material, and could it be removed and replaced bu the stock bulb?

I would like to quickly reiterate for anyone just joining this thread, how much I truly enjoy my AF short shifter. I paid full price for it and I believe it really is worth it. I have put 3-4K miles on it and it has held up great. Shifting is smooth as ever. I have the stock clutch and flywheel and I believe although this seems like a menial upgrade the difference really is drastic once you install it. And speaking of installing it, it really is a breeze w/ or w/o instructions as you can figure it out quite easily. Just be careful not to lose any of the shifter base nuts to the "e-brake well" as I had a hard time fishing that out.

Money well spent on a quality product that makes driving a great car that much greater.

Thanks again Richard !

the felt put just a touch of rpessure and lets the shifter vibrate.. press lightly on the shifter while you are in any gear and it will whine.. take your hand off and it'll go quiet instantly. I can almost play a song by touching my shifter in diffrent places. pushing it forward slightly in 3rd gear mkes the car sound like a jet engine... even more than it already does.

It would be nice to have a vibration dampener for the shifter.

It's installed and what a difference it makes.

Forget clear corners, this should be the first mod for any RX-8!

hm, is there a problem with people who live in canada not getting them? or are they just slower to ship? i live in canada, and was on the hymee website when i saw it, and i instantly wanted one (after driving with a short throw in my buddys z06) is it just a longer wait then normal?

Are you saying that you ordered one and it hasn't gotten there?
I haven't had a Canada order in almost a month. If you ordered and don't have it give me your name so I can trace it.

Not to mention that it comes shipped as GIFT! Makes it more worth the wait when you don't get triple levied by your Gov.!

Don't count on the savings too much. The government still takes their pound of flesh. My shifter cost about $20 to free it from the post office...
It's still well below what it would have cost if it showed full price on the shipping documents.

I don't think he's talking rx-8. I think he wants to put it into another vehicle. Yes?
