Beating smog
I have a couple of questions.
I know that there are people on this forum who run catless, turbocharged RX-8s. I also know that there is no way those cars could pass emissions. To those owners: How do you pass the smog test?
My next question is to those with engine swaps. There are people who have put older engines into RX-8s, which is apparently specifically illegal. How do you get away with that?
Thanks,
-Falken

I dont know if I own anything that could pass. We dont have tests here, so no problems there. Register in another county without emission is the best method.
At $4+ a gallon, if I want to let raw gas pour out of the exhaust I will do it.
Also on the boosted ones, just turn the boost way down, and lean it way out. Just make a emissions friendly map if you have a aftermarket ecu.

I'm really more concerned with the engine swap problem.
Just for example purposes, lets assume a 20B RX-8 with a good size turbo has to pass. How does it get done?
I heard something about "show car insurance"?

Well felony convictions for bribery are not worth it to me.
But this IS illinois, and anyone who lives in IL should know what I'm talking about...

I'll snap his neck.
Not sure how you would do it with a different engine. With a SC, you would just disconnect the belt, and perhaps unplug the Interceptor or EMU if you are running those. Not sure what all is involved in disconnecting a turbo. Or like tdiddy said, use an AP to shut off those codes.

I don' think you can register a car in another state without having insurance from that state and that states tags.....but another county that does not have testing is possible as long as there is someone u know with an address there

Yes sir , with a swapped engine in california your car can be taken away without matching vin numbers. They are implementing smog machines to take a test while your driving. Seen some on the freeway. If you're thinking about getting a turbo or a swap then you've come to the wrong state pal....

The Accessport will disable all the emissions related CEL's so when the smog place checks the PCM for trouble codes they won't find any.
With a proper tune, you could run the car lean enough to pass emissions (in theory) but unless there is a problem with the PCM they shouldn't be performing a sniffer test. Some places will do a visual inspection but only to make sure you don't have an exhaust dump.
If someone asked me where my CAT was I'd tell them it's on the manifold. GOOD LUCK finding that!
