Silicon is a lubricant. Lead isn't.

Lead is very much a lubricant. It was the lubricant agent in gas before it was removed and replaced by alcohols.

Lead was not used in gas as a lubricant. It was an antiknock agent.

Okay, you're right there. Lead was infact added to gas to increase its octane rating.

However, it was still an effective lubricant for the valves. I just leared all about gas, including this particular fact, in my automotive classes at college, so I know I'm right.

Cool c a i

does the cold air intake actually do anything performance wise? my roomate has a honda s2000 and I cant really tell about performance but the damn thing sounds like a ferrari since he put it on. also does anyone know if "hot wires" are actually worth the money for the performance? can the rx8 hang with the honda in a flat out drag race numbers wise??

Ok, so we know that any modification to the intake is not going to gain much hp. However if you combin that the a good exhaust system like say B&B, then the result would be much better. I only want a modest increase not to make my car do 10 second in a quarter mile. Shut, I already did my own cold air modification by just relocating the stock front intake hose and dropping it straight down to the front air dam. And I could feel some gain in power. All I need now is a good exhaust system, mazdaspeed springs and flywheel and I'm set to enjoy my ride for as long as I live.
