benny ignition sucks! need plugssss

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/RX-8-...spagenameZWDVW

has anyone heard of them? are these plugs good or would you recommend different ones for a turbo application... (also where i can find plugs for a good price)

also anyone know where i can pick up the hks twin power for cheap? and will any one for the rotary work or does it have to be 8 specific?

thanks in advance

Hmmm. Is one of your wires blown? Or are you just trying to upgrade. For $20 more, you can get a set of Racing Beat or other brand name cables. I've gotten cables in the past that were lifetime guaranteed. If I had to guess, most cables are just bulk purchased Xmm cable that is cut to length and crimped with caps. So long as the caps/crimping holds, they are more or less the same. You might get a slight improvement but not usually a limiting factor. Garbage burnt/coated/fouled spark plugs (which probably happens a lot when tuning a FI car) can hurt your performance a lot. Some 8s have had coils go bad. The stock ignition should be good till passed 300 whp on good tuning but a twin power might run a bit better. If you've got some cash to redo the ignition, by all means go for it. Wires aren't that expensive. If you have ignition troubles, this probably won't fix them. I've also bought plug wires 75% for a color change and 25% for performance.

benny, get your coils checked/replaced. what you have there are plug wires. not plugs. also, i would check out sparkplugs.com for plugs.

- Never heard of those wires, I recently got RB wires and they're pretty damn nice.
- www.sparkplugs.com seems to be the cheapest place to get plugs.
- I've seen people use RX-7 plugs in the 8, but I'd recommend staying with the NGK. Make sure you order leading / trailing. The leading plugs will have grooves in them
- talk to XdeedubbX for HKS stuff

hope that helps

No on here has ever heard of Taylor spark plug wires?? Wow.

I just ordered the Magnecore competition wire set from www.ptuning.com. Only $68 if I remember- basically same price. Trusted vendor. Good stuff.

No one has heard of Taylor wires?! They have been around forever! They are mostly found in competition dragracers. Those will be better then anything Autoexe,RB, or HKS can offer.

On my RX-7 I have always run Magnecor ignition wires. They are so well shielded that it's hard to get a timing light signal through them. Racing Beat's wires are also nice. There does come a point though where more isn't necessarily better. I know nothing of Taylor wires so I have no opinion on them.

As far as plugs go, stick with one of 2 types of plugs. Either keep using the RX-8 plugs, or use the platinum RX-7 plugs from NGK. Do not use RX-7 plugs made by Nippondenso.

Above all, check your coils to make sure they are functioning properly.

I am generally suspicious of ebay products. If you go to the Taylor home page, they have released a set of custom wires for the 8, but, if you go to the applications pages, almost all the the wire sets for "Mazadas" are 8 mm Spiro series. They made a 409 Spiro series for the FD. The Rx-8 set isn't in the listing yet, at least not readily located. Odds are, the custom fit Rx-8 cables are 8 mm. They do, however, make generic wire sets where you buy components (wires, boots) and cut to length yourself. These are mostly geared around 8 cylinders. Thats twice as much as the 8 needs. Someone could be buying 409 series 10.4 mm generic series and cutting them to length for the Rx-8. They might not cut them to proper length. Now you depend on their ability to fabricate wires. Or, they have the Taylor 8 mm series and are selling them as 10.4 mm. Or, Taylor put out it's first set of Rx-8 wires in 10.4 mm, doesn't have them listed on their site, and this guy got a good deal on them. Regardless, anytime you buy ebay anything, you take some chances.

Apparently, they are the only shop in the world with these wires and they are rebuildable. I'm thinking they are cuts of the generic set, A decent shop assembling the wires would still make a wire set.

Benny - you are running an Int-X right? Have you had someone check to make sure the start up settings are not too rich?

A recommendation is to begin to learn how to tune the inter yourself without getting to aggressive in the beginning. I began to learn myself after blowing my first engine which was definitely because of the aggressive tune. I have had much help from Dave at KDR, MazdaManiac and MadDog as well. As MazdaManic had recommended, and based on my experience, begin using the matrix mode to learn how to tune.
My idle is consistently at 11.8 to 12.3 and smooth. I am running at about 7-8 lbs and plan on keeping this level. The ignition timing is key, I have been running very conservatively based on MazdaManiac settings for the most part, there is a lot of info in this forum.

yes, that is about the best new price from a dealer for OEM RX-8 plugs

http://sparkplugs.com/results_app.as...1&AAIA=1431319

sometimes they come up for less in the FS area

the RX-7 plugs are a lot cheaper though

nothing wrong with those Taylor wires, that's actually a good price since shipping is free

Use NGK-5255 part # BUR9EQP. They are trailing plugs for rx7, and cost ~ $6.00 each. I use them in both leadings and trailings in my turbo rx8 (as suggested by Scott from Mazsport), but require extra shim in the trailings. Ask Scott for details.

Why hasn't anyone yet warned benny that he is his own worst enemy? He damn near killed himself trying to swap suspension springs, now he wants to kill his engine. I'll pray now.
