I just got my new rx-8 and would like to know the best kit for getting the most power out of the renesis. I have checked into a few but figured I would ask on here before I did anything.
Thanks for any input you guys have

Best advice is to find a shop that has installed and TUNED RX-8's with turbos. Tuning is the most imortant thing, not the type of kit you get. You can also read the sticky threads in https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-major-horsepower-upgrades-93/
This is not an easy car to upgrade, being well informed before you start will save you much grief. You also might want to wait till next year when some SC are due.

Also, read the reports from SevenStock and SEMA to find out what new stuff is coming out.

My advice would be to wait a little while because a few FI kits are being shown/released this weekend at sevenstock. So if you wait a little you'll see how those do when a couple people get them on their cars. That'll give you a good idea of what to expect from each one.

Yeah, I currently have the greddy kit on my car. It is fun, but I can easily tell you to wait, as in the next few months you are going to have some real nice kits coming out (Axial Flow SC, Petit Racing SC, Mazsport, PTP Turbos.

^ Assuming cost is not a big factor. The Greddy kit will likely remain the lowest costing kit of the bunch, and being able to get 80-100 more hp out if it makes it a pretty good bang for the buck. Even at 3,200 bucks for the base kit, you'll usually end up in the 5-6k range depending on other mods you add on, and for install.

So when you're looking at the bigger hp kits that start off at 5 or 6k, some require additional for fuel management, you're going to look at a figure north of 8k for some of these.

Yeah, but with the issues, unless you are a gearhead and like to work with you car, the Greddy can be a pain in the ***. While I don't think I would ever go back to normally aspirated again, right now if I had 5K-6K I would NOT get the Greddy kit. I would save up somemore money and get some of the other (more complete & better quality) stuff. I do agree with mysq101's cost prices. Don't assume because a kit is $3K+ that is it. Allocate a good $1500-$2000 beyond that for install, tuning, gauges, gauge pod, etc.

I don't have a problem with the greddy kit at all. While there can be issues, most of it springs from fuel management. The Ultimate is a lot better than blue. And of course you can also get the int-x.

Either way, you should upgrade all the couplers and reducers since the greddy hoses are shoddy quality.

I haven't heard a lot about the PTP kit - it had some pretty good numbers, and I think it's been out for a while now. Did they simply price it too high?

^not out yet

And what are couplers and reducers? Some of us just don't have the turbo knowhow.

That's the issue that I have. It's just not the complete kit they claim it is. Even with the EManage Ultimate from the people I have talked to it still has some issues. I have the Blue, as I one of the first ones with the kit. You want better management, you can upgrade to something else. You should upgrade the hoses as the Greddy ones are only OK, some people have had issues with the turbos themselves. Overall it just has too many limitations. it is what it is, a decent street kit, but given the choices just IMO I would wait for these and spend a little more. If it could save you from some of the heartache I have had I will tell you it is well worth it to go for something else.

I think it's pretty complete, but it's not plug and play.

Just replace the hoses, add an oil restrictor and you're set. That adds an additional $100 or so to the price of the kit. The rest of the stuff on my list applies to all FI kits (gauges, tuning, etc).

There is no right or wrong answer with this. You just have to decide what price point is effective for you for the gains you get in return. GReddy's kit is clearly not the BEST one out there, but it does work with minimal changes, and it is priced very low.

Danstoy "Dan" says to do another car like that would cost about 80K. Just the engine work alone would cost about 20K. He is not making that into a kit. I think someone wanted to order a complete car built like that and he told them 120K.
