Best Air Intake?

No. The K&N gives all sorts of people problems with idle and such. Of what's out there now, I would recommend the Rotary Extreme as it's much better engineered. A few people still have problems with it, but far less than the K&N.

I am almost ready to install the SR Intake, but I have a few questions for them. Here is the thread if you are curious:

After spending time at the Racing Beat research facility, and talking with their product development people, I'm convinced the 8 is no ordinary car. They've taken time to come out with an exhaust system that sounds great, and they're taking time to come up with an intake that improves performance without sounding horrible. Mazda engineers did a pretty good job of designing the 8 and even RB's people are finding it's not so easy to find extra performance.
The 8 is a sophisticated machine and RB's guys are working very hard and carefully to not upset that with quick and traditional methods of performance mods; some of which actually worsen performance. I heard some "competitor's" intakes on their test engine and geez it was so loud and harsh I cannot imagine driving around with that in my car. They're working on a special design that will sound good, not sound harsh, yet still improve performance.
I'm going to be patient and wait for their system; I don't want to ruin the enjoyment of my car just for a couple more horsepower.
Just my 2 cents....

From all the research I have done, believe me it has been a lot of reading. The K&N intakes have caused nothing but problems. Their typhoon system is not designed "in my humble opinion" to work with the small amount of room in the 8. The way the 8 is designed is so unique that they could not have just whipped out something so fast, to me K&N just copped out and is trying to cash in on being the first one out with one to try and sucker us all in. The only intakes I have heard anything positive about are the SR's and Rotory extremes.

I bought the SR not on price, but on quality of construction and sound level. It looks great under the hood, like it belongs there.
The RE did not appeal to my personal tastes, and it is by far louder. So, it all comes down to performance, aesthetics, and finally price. I just purchased a sports car, and I want the engine compartment to look good when I show it off.

I have to second Ole Sp(l)iff: Racing Beat is working on an intake that, from all indications, will be better thought out and cleaner than the current offerings. I already have (just received it today) their exhaust, and plan to get the intake eventually. I think it will be worth the wait.

The RB exhaust is on my list also
A quick question: Will an aftermarket intake affect my Mazda Warranty? Anybody out there care to help me with this question?
