^^^ Yeah. I mean as long as they're (I assume) designing all this using a 3D CAD system, why don't they just release the calculated moment of inertia?

Your point is taken but I do believe the reduction over stock in moment of the Mazdaspeed is more than the 55% reduction that RB claims. Could be wrong.
I think the holes whistle a little at high RPMs so I don't know if they are all good.

A little lighter but stronger... Actually the best material for flywheels is chromoloy, and they take more punishment then aluminum... Most aluminum flywheels have a chromoly tooth ring and a chromoly clutch friction surface etc...

Chromoly is an alloy and after a lot of searching I did finally come up with the components.
It is 95% iron which means it should be about the same density as steel. It is funny because the flywheel didn't feel as heavy as if it had been made out of steel.
So that leaves us with Mazdaspeed flywheel and the RB flywheel probably having very similar reductions in intertial losses. The Mazdaspeed weighs a little less (maybe a pound by cortc's more accurate measurements), Racing Beat uses alluminum on the outer edge. while Mazdaspeed drills holes in there wheel.
Should be very similar.

Probably. I bought the RB because it was cheaper than MS and I liked the design. I've seen some Al flywheels with Aluminum teeth and THAT I did not trust. the nice thing about the MS is you won't get boned by the dealer if your clutch goes out...

Hey all,
I know it's been a while but Polak and I finally got together and did a baseline of his unmodified RX-8 against mine with the RB flywheel. Here is the Gtech comparison. I'd say it's a solid comparison as the power curve matches very well until you start to see the effects of the flywheel become more pronounced. The weights when tested are different because of the difference in gas, both of us being in the car, him having a pile of his shirts and crap in the back and his nav. system.
