Do you guys think I should start to install and crimp the ground hoop before shipping? I don't do it now because I thought each person would have a different routing for their ground wire but if it is better to crimp the ground hoop on, I will.
We have also made some minor changes that should ease installation and improve fitment a little bit.

it wouldn't hurt and it would help on the install with less tools to use like jujo said

I can't remember if i posted this here or not but my car was flooded when i got my coil kit. Well, i finally got it running tonight after many attempts and all i can say about the BHR coils is wow!
Every improvement is subtle but a significant improvement over stock. So far i've noticed that the engine runs smoother and quieter, it idles rock solid and the power band is smooth and buttery and full of POWA! There is not a doubt in my mind that my engine is running at it's full potential.
Nice job guys.

Ok so I bent the engine hoist a little so it would not mess with the cables and let me tell you the car feels different hehe. It hasnt shown the same symptoms yet so hopefully its fixed. Now I think I need to retake datalogs because the AFR's under load/boost have changed

When you try to put the new coils in there make sure before you do that you have unwound the grounding cable. I made that mistake! Also put the spacers in before you try the coils. I found getting the nuts on with the BHR coils was difficult. I was only able to tighten them by hand, but I'm OK with that as long as it doesn't pose a problem in the future. If anyone thinks this is bad please let me know! I had to unplug this tubing bracket next to it before I could fit it in. Don't ask me what it is, because I've no idea!

The biggest issue I had (of all things) was getting the nuts back on, with the BHR bracket installed. I was able to get the 2 rear nuts tightened, but I could not get my fingers down there to even hand-tighten the other two. Any suggestions on how to get those other nuts on? Or better yet, tightened? Right now the bracket is very secure, but I'd just feel better with all four on there.
As for impressions of the new coils... the most obvious improvement is in the idle, which is now much steadier. I'm hoping my gas mileage improves as well (also installed new plugs), because like the idle, it's been abysmal lately. Charles and BHR, thanks for making a great kit -- it was worth the wait!

I finally got a chance to install the coils last night. Everything went well. My car started right up after installed. And this morning it started right up and I drove to work. Then time to go home, I went out and started my car. It took 2 cranks to start it up. So I drove home and shut it off. Then I started up again, now it took a while to get it start up. I did it a few times later, and same thing. Took a while to get the engine start up. Anybody knows what could be the problem. I double, triple check the coils and wires. Everything looks just fine. Any help?

I'm starting to think that mine may not have been installed correctly or something. I noticed that my MPG has gone down, and sometimes it take longer to crank/start. Anyone ever experience this?

If you still have it under warranty you should be able to get a new starter from Mazda. If not you can either get a reman from Mazmart or try to get one of the few new sets left out there. Mazda no longer makes the upgrade starters and now only offers remans.
Also make sure all of you have the kit grounded properly. That can cause some of the issues you're reporting.

We did take apart my starter after replacing it and it looked like only two of the four contacts used to spin the motor were fully extended. Jon may be able to explain it with better terminology since I'm just a DIY tinkerer on my car and hate the thought of ever having to understand electricity. I just like plugging things in and letting the magic happen.

Here's a post on my starter diagnosing including a video of my starter cranking (and failing) with my 04 starter and Diehard battery, then the Optima, then the new starter.

Yes. Get the new starter. Try to get the upgraded starter if possible but they may only get you a remanufactured one. Anybody who's got slow starting should try to fight this battle because it -is- the starter that's ultimately causing these issues.

I would suggest an "updated" starter in any event as the A/T starters simply ROCK.
I'm still pissed off that my stealership never replaced it after two consecutive years of cold-storage where the car failed to start in the Spring and required a tow. Shame I didn't frequent RX8Club more back then.

well, i wanted to hold off on my review until i figured out what was wrong. i had marginal start-up before the bhr ignition, then after the ignition upgrade it would not turn over when warm. i swapped the starter for a used -not updated- one with about 20k miles. same problems persisted. i garaged the car until my new updated starter from mazmart arrived. what a difference!! it starts up within a second. turn the key and let go, no more cranking for 5-6 seconds.
i had to modify the bhr base plate because all the bolt holes were about 5mm to the left. the coil would contact the intake manifold and wouldn't sit properly. i couldn't tell if the baseplate was backwards or if this was just an issue on my unit, but it definitely would not fit without modification. once i enlarged the holes, everything fit right into place. even before swapping starters, the bhr ignition felt solid at all rpms. now, it's butter!!! great product bhr!

I was about to make an appointment to get my starter replaced (under warranty), but I held off because I didn't think it would help. Why would the updated starter remedy a hot-engine startup problem? And why would this particular problem worsen after the new coils were put in? I've checked all my intake connections, plugs, etc and I guess the next thing would be to get that starter. I just don't understand the connection between the starter itself and the problem I'm having with only warm-startups. I am really glad to hear that it solved your problem though... hopefully it'll do the same for me!
Thanks for any ideas...

I also looked on Mazda's list of TSBs, but for some reason I'm not seeing it.

Charles, which TSB is the one that mentions hot-starting problems, specifically? I do know of the "Engine cranks no start" TSB, but this has to do with shutting the car down without letting the engine warm up properly. It shows the de-carb and compression-check procedures.
I also looked on Mazda's list of TSBs, but for some reason I'm not seeing it.

This TSB is not available anymore.
Hope thtat helps.
