BHR Ignition System: Results/Impressions
#326
Yeah I could be wrong, just throwing out some ideas...but I only had these installed for less than 1000 miles and they got worse and worse FAST...so hence my heat theory. Just because they have heat sinks, doesn't mean they work good for the 8. They are pretty close to the engine as it is.

Gl with the wires tho, hope it works out.

I think you are misunderstanding what I'm saying. I wasn't saying it only misfires when it's warm. I mean the engine bay temps are actually deteriorating the coils itself, causing it to get worse over time, thus more misfires...regardless of operating temp being hot or cold. And again this is just me brain storming.

less than 1000 miles, most of the time not in boost...not much in high rpms anyway. could be your oem coils are shot too though. I am surprised by my own oems...they have about 20,000 miles on them and work great. (that I know of anyway)

ok I am reinstalling oem while I get the new wires in and I am a bit confused I did not install the BHR myself, I had a firend do it cause I had a horrible week and had no time and I would like to know if it matters where they go since I see that two of the wires on the stock ones have blue and green stripes and the other 2 do not. Any help?

I spoke to Jeff this evening and he informed me that in fact the PCM is capable of producing trims at all times regardless of whether the PCM is in open loop or closed loop.
Regardless, if your tune doesn't perform properly from the get go I would take note of that. Don't wait until the trims correct the issue.
Previously I figured the trims would stop adjusting fuel when in open loop but it looks like the PCM can do it at any point.

His heat theory is pure nonsense. I have used them in several events for up to 40 consecutive minutes of track without cool-up laps. Jeff uses them on his car in Az too, let's remember this.
I would lean towards a faulty batch of coils or terminals if a problem is to be found in that regard, not towards a mere heat issue. I am doing some tests anyway in these days

idk man the heat thing seems to have something to do with the car not wantin to start. when i get up and first take off starts right up but if i drive for a while (get it hot) then stop eat or soemthing and get back in doesnt want to start at all but if i drive it and let it sit for a good time long enough to cool off it will start right up so idk just makes sense i just wish i new what problem was its getting annoying have to try 4-5 times to start car after uve ran it and somewhat embarrising when you have a nice car and it doesnt want to start lol

That's a fact that the car, when hot, refuses to start at the first spin of the engine. Talking about a "heat" issue is not correct though. I say this because if they were suffering the heat they would have problems while running too, things that they don't.
It should be a mere current\voltage problem with the coils sucking more than what the battery can give them when they're hot
Can anybody try and start the car when hot, with the emergency cables? this would really confirm this (and that's what's happening to me because of my crap battery).
If you have a voltmeter try and measure how many volts arrive to the coils when the car's cold and when's hot. This is another important and less empiric test.
Charles please PM me the coil specs (OEM\Yukon) and i will do some further studies.

ya i guess if it was heat it wouldnt run right once hot idk im out of ideas i guess ill get my battery tested or something but coils have to have somehtign to do with it bc it wasnt like this b 4 the install

Yeah try what i said the post before yours and let us know!
Trust me when i say that i "tested" something because i'm really an ******* while track driving. If i can't break something then it must really be bulletproof!

I have a theory that perhaps the engine temps are destroying the coils performance. From my experience I noticed that the misfires kept getting worse. At first when I installed them, no misfires, and I wasn't fully tuned yet. Then when I was getting them at only 5psi while properly tuned, I knew something was up. Switching back to OEM cured the problem and unleashed some performance I was missing.
I could be wrong, but just thought I would throw that in there.

If this "Heat Theory" is correct then why has it not affected my car? I have the hottest car out here. These coils have endured the AZ Summer and have no issues.
120 degrees outside. What do you think the temp is under my hood? Coolant temps in the 230's
And your in cooler climate.
Show me the logic in this.

Merely explaining my experience. This is why I did not even want to mention anything in the first place because there will be those that will not believe that these issues do exist. But the fact is, like it or not, Ray is human and not a god of vendors. Do I think he is a good guy? Heck yes I do. But mistakes and issues are prone to happen no matter how nice the guy is or whatever various "tests" they have been through...it's just not possible to test every variable out there.
I was number 25 on the list when these first were introduced, so to me it wouldn't make sense that there was a bad batch of coils...It seems most of the issues are coming from more recent orders. But then again, what do I know.
So I've said all I wanted to say on this subject and I will let Ray take care of it like we all know he will.
edit: and just to clarify...my issues are with misfires, not the hot start problems that is surfacing

Let's not get defensive everyone, like i mentioned a few times, just a thought and not once did I say it was fact. Just thinking out loud guys. Chill.

Forgive me for sounding curt.
