Its Alive!
The power curve is so smooth and predictable I am no longer worried about driving too hard. After the install that took me about 1 hour, I took the car for a drive around the block (in Diamond Bar) and ended up in Huntington Beach for absolutely no other reason but to push the ignition to its limits. After this drive around the block I am pretty sure that the ignition is capable of outpacing the demands of the 8’s engine.
To sum it up, I agree with all the good stuff that is said about this ignition system in this thread and can not find any performance faults.
Only complaint (and it is trivial) the tolerance between the engine bracket and the wire harness on I think coil L1 was nonexistent on my car. I had to slightly bend the engine hoist bracket so there was no contact as I was concerned that vibration would cause problems with rubbing on the wires. Also not sure if this is in the instructions as I only briefly scanned them but the car wire harness was difficult to get reattached with the plug wires plugged into the coils. I would suggest plugging the plug wires in after the car’s wire harness is reattached. I say this because the plug wire coil connection is delicate and I could tell as I carefully removed one of the wires to get the car harness reattached that it would be easy to damage the spark plug wire if it is yanked on.
Anyway, thanks Charles and I can not wait for my mid pipe that I promise to only use on the “race track.”

I removed the engine (assuming you mean lift) bracket and just reattached the bolts. I have no plans to have to use it any time soon anyway... And if I did I'd have much bigger problems.

I didn't have to remove the harness connector nor the throttle body heater circuit. I left both of those connected and pushed the throttle body out of the way.
This allowed me to get around the engine hoist hoop easier and I still leave them on when I do an installation.
To be frank; I think many of you fail to realize how tight-fitting so many other things are under the hood and the fact that the BHR Ignition System, although a tight squeeze, is really no different in this regard than anything else under the hood. We are using coils which are about 25% larger than the OEM versions and we are adding another 4" of harness wiring. Despite this, it is still as "bolt-on" a system as can be designed, completely removeable without permanent damage to anything under the hood, and is one of the few mods you won't regret purchasing.

Anyway, day two and I am in love. Had my brother-in-law confirm my but dyno impressions about the performance increase and he was able to chirp the wheels in third gear! He has driven my car several times and is very impressed with the increase of performance saying it no longer feels gutless. I did notice that my stock coil plate was slightly burned under T2 as was the bottom of the coil so I probably benefited more than someone who had properly working stock coils.
Either way, besides the car payments, this is the best money I spent on the car so far.

FWIW, during my install, I slotted/elongated the rear-most bolt hole of the BHR bracket with a dremel, which helped a lot with my install.
For me... I knew going into it that the stock ign in my '06 was in good shape, and the plugs were only ~3k miles old. I went into it not expecting to feel any difference, rather, I did it more as a preventative measure, seeing as the resale value was so strong on the BHR ign anyway.
My start-up didn't change. My mileage did not change. My idle did not change. However, what I did notice though was a smoother WOT pull above 7k RPM.
I've been around cars a long time, have done probably ~50 dyno pulls, and back about a dozen years ago, tuned my own setup (Link ECU on boosted application... ahh, the memories). I fully understand that most people subscribe to the placebo effect when they think they've paid/installed a mod. I also think the average person can't feel a 10% crank HP difference with their butt dyno. In this case though, the BHR ign made WOT pulls "smoother"... it's hard to quantify, but you can definitely sense the subtle difference of the smoother pull.

Just wanted to know if this was still valid to get the dwell adjusted for the BHR ignition. Also, my calibration service expired a while ago so I'd like to know if I'm eligible for the adjusting.

If you are currently still working on your calibration with Jeff, he will adjust your dwell settings if you note in the 11 Deadly Questions that you have the BHR coils installed.

So for starters, I would like to say how amazing your threads/forum have been as a new proud owner of a 04 RX8. I read your new car owner thread which has helped me tremendously when I went to look at this car. At any rate I have had the car for 4 days and I am ready to start modding it. I have read a lot of great things about a BHR kit so I was wondering the cost, the level of difficulty and how to purchase one.
I used the search function a lot and came across the DYI, Pre Mix, and other amazing threads. So.. Thank you for all this wealth of information!

Well my previous vehicle ( which I still own) is a 97 Chevy Silverado with 167k miles, ive worked under the hood a couple times (radiator, plugs,cap,rotor, oil changes). thanks for the link to the website! It has probably been mentioned a few hundred times and sorry for bumping an old thread haha!

Much needed
I got my new coils installed last night and it went pretty smooth, with 2 exceptions. First there was a wiring harness near the mounting posts that was just annoying. Second I had to remove the L1 coil to tighten the mounting post underneath it.
That being said it was well worth it. My 05 had only 19K miles on it, but the ignition system was in rough shape.
I have some pictures of my old coils and plugs. So I'll let you guys judge for yourself, but I will tell you the last plug (trail on rotor 2) wasn't even plugged in, the wire boot was laid on the top.
As for the butt-dyno, I always wondered why the dyno curves looked the way they did when I could definitely tell the power curve on my car dropped off at 6K rpms. I was ok with this cause I thought my car had plenty of power. After the install its like a completely different engine. I bet only having the one spark plug firing on rotor 2 put me 30 to 40 horse power down. Now the car has steady acceleration from 3K all the way to the redline and it gets from 3K to 9K faster than it used to go from 4K to 6K.

Got my coils installed today. Took me about 45 minutes. Right away i noticed better throttle response and a smoother powerband. You really have to see it to believe it. These things are the real deal and worth every penny. Thank you BHR for your time and effort. A+ on the product
