Extraordinary Engineering
My BHR ignition kit was sitting on the shelf since it arrived last fall. Other priorities took over my life till this spring and I finally installed the kit a couple of weeks ago.
This week WCS updated my AP maps to use the new dwell times.
The car feels strong and healthy and (once I connected the ground ) started right up.
I'll probably dyno the car this summer to quantify the changes I've been making.
BTW, I'm selling my Racing Beat ULTRA 8mm Silicone Ignition Wires (for OEM coils) for $50 and will ship my OEM coils (which were working fine but are sent as-is) to anyone who needs them and will pick them up or pay shipping.

My butt dyno says throttle response and power are improved.
With the Davesport cat equipped mid pipe and RB catback it sounds vicious!
I'm lovin' this
edit:
the flying BHR monkey is the coolest thing I've ever shocked the hell out of my daughter with!

Put mine on today. Just ordered it last Thursday, so response time from BHR was fantastic.
Engine is noticeably smoother thoughout the rev range. Idle is rock solid. Only problem is I now have to referee the fights between my 2 youngest kids over who gets the flying monkey.

Charles I emailed you.
I'm going to run your coils with the Pettit supercharger kit.
Do you suggest I can use these coils with the kit? Any dwell that needs to be adjusted on these new kits with FI?

I have a couple of innocent (dumb) questions:
1) Does the kit now come with improved step-by-step instructions? The early posts on this thread had me concerned.
2) With this kit, do I have to never worry about changing the coils again? Just change the plugs as needed? Is that the biggest advantage of this kit - rather than replacing OEM coils which fail every 25K miles or less?
3) Can some verify that S2 coils are just as bad as S1?
I can tell this kit works from the feedback - improves idle, backfire, better revving, buttdyno improvements and such. Not doubting any of this? Trying to understand better if S2 needs this as much.
I am considering this mod for my 09 R3 and trying to do the ROI on it!
Thanks all

1. This install is SUPER easy, I'm under the impression the kit has always come with instructions but the only part that is really any different from replacing OE coils is finding a grounding point. (which is included in the instructions)
2. These coils should outlast your car.
3. We've seen failures on S2 coils as well so I think the benefit is there as well.
My personal opinion: If I had an RX8 with more then 25,000 miles or a few years old I'd be looking to replace the coils and I wouldn't bother with OEM's, this is a worthwhile investment that should offer peace of mind for years to come.

1)Yes the instructions are new and improved. I like saying that. New and improved.
2)We have seen our ignition kit pass the 3 year/100,000 mile mark on one of the first customers cars. With NO issues.
I can't personally say that the new S2 version of the factory coil is any better than the first S1 version. But I would like peace of mind and not have to worry about a future coil issue. So I would get the BHR Kit. Even if I didn't have a slight prejudice towards them. A good product that lasts is always on the top of my list.
There are a lot of S2's running our kit right now. And they all have sent back positive feedback. not one complaint.

Fair enough, Erich. I have researched it but heard great things, but didn't see/know if BHR coils needed replaced.
One more question - Is the coil failure due to high heat in the engine bay?
Has there been any tech done to move the coils in themselves to a cooler location or maybe provide a heat shield - On Evo's, The cam sensor would get destroyed when using a different manifold/turbo due to the heat that it was exposed to. Someone came up with a nifty cf heat shield to help keep heat away - wondering if its a similar situation is all... Thanks for the responses!
