hey people. I'm thinking about getting a midpipe...either the BHR or the Racingbeat, i like that the racing beat is said to be quieter...anyways if i add the midpipe, will i need to have my car tuned in order to run properly? or i guess will adding the midpipe without a tune cause any damage? thanks for any and all responses....also, i have an aem intake Racing Beat exhaust and I'm running the Cobb AP's base map. Thanks again!

You don't need a tune to run the midpipe. That said, if you want to optimize performance then you can get a tune but I never did after installing my BHR midpipe.
|
unless you specify it having a Cat you will get a check engine light.
|
My butt dyno feels that this midpipe has added at least 10hp to my living room floor.
|
^ Get the MazdaManiac tune to add another 10HP to that butt dyno. There was a noticeable difference from stock after my tune was done.

If it throws a check engine can't i clear it with the Cobb AP? |
You can use the Cobb to make the specific code be ignored. Installed me pipe this morning. Sounds good and I think the tone went up a little bit and lost some bass. Donut gasket also fought with me to go on.
|
Just stopping in to say I love my BHR midpipe. love the tone. love the feel!
|
After a week I have to say I really love the sound of this midpipe. I do have both the rattle and hiss, though. The rattle goes away when it warms up. The hiss hangs out underneath everything. I have taken it off twice to look for the issue and found nothing. How is everyone else fixing their basket of snakes?
|
I just installed my BHR midpipe 2 days ago on my S2 along with the stock exhaust and I am getting that same hissing sound under load o__O. Other than that it sounds amazing! :D
|
Just for followup feedback from my other posts here I modified the TXS springs (cut them down) so that I could fit them in place. Worked like a charm and 0 leaks. Love this midpipe
edit: I too have the rattle/hiss .... nothing that bothers me though. |
I think I narrowed my rattle down to the manifold heat shield. It is rusting a little and I disturbed it replacing the pipe. My hiss sounds like it may be coming from the intake side of things. I put in a K&N and removed the walls. Thinking about putting all that back.
|
I have the hiss too... I think it's normal. The design of the "resonator" looks like a spiral so I suppose that's the sound we get instead of how loud it would normally be if it were a straight pipe.

Speaking of Entropy...
|
I realize all of this now. It still didn't stop me from endlessly messing with it at first because of some concerns. The donut gasket never really fit right on mine. I bought another one and forced it to fit better.

loveee my BHR midpipe :)

It is a phenomenon called "entropy".

Should be receiving my BHR catless midpipe in the mail soon. Wondering if any one has any advice for the install, if so please post :) I have the Exocitspeed RII Titan cat back exhaust, does anyone know if this has the thicker or thinner flanges and if i should use the oem or bhr springs?
Can't wait to get my midpipe and get it installed. Will post sound clips when finished. Crossing my fingers and hoping i have no rattles. |
Exoticspeed R2 titian cat back with stock cat before BHR midpipe.

Some end-of-ownership BHR midpipe feedback sent to Ray and he requested I post this here:

I figure the data point could be useful to you at some point.

Hey guys i have a rattle from my bhr midpipe wondering if you guys have any ideas, i've torqued all the bolts and the oxygen sensors. The pipes are not hitting the heat shields. Any ideas? Here is the video
|
Do you have the Davesport cat? It could be the cat material rattling around the enclosure. I recently put my stock cat back on temporarily for a smog check and noticed that the catalyst "roll" was fairly loose in there after about 1.5 years of use. It's hard to tell from that video, though.
|
Thanks Charles,
So i guess i will back off the bolts and spring and do a couple turns on each side. Hopefully that will fix it! What are the torque specs for the oxygen sensor or is it until it won't turn anymore? RX8SaxMan - no i don't have the davesport cat |

Mike, I actually requested that you post the commentary on BHR's website, particularly the midpipe product page. Thanks. :)
