My concern is about Flow.

Also, any thoughts on whether or not that cat would meet the following emission requirements?

ASM2525 TEST Limits (~2525RPM)
Hydrocarbon: 66 PPM
Carbon Monoxide: 0.37%
Nitrogen Oxides (NOx): 505 PPM

CURB IDLE TEST Limits (~800RPM):
Hydrocarbon: 150 PPM
Carbon Monoxide: 0.70%

edit: not 100% on those limits trying to find my actual ones...

My dilemma is mostly that the fines for cat removal here are > $2000, so it's not really in my interest to play with it. We're also required to do an e-test every 2 years.

$500 for a cat that is street legal and still provides me a significant flow improvement over stock is well worth it imo.

the cat.
TeamRX8 experimented with a few different ones and he settled on one from Europe which proved to be quite effective (and reliable) but getting that piece and having it welded into a pipe is not cheap.

you get what you pay for though.

Alrighty everyone... Here is my RX8 CLUB SPECIAL REVIEW of this midpipe.

DISCLAIMER: I am in no way, shape, or form, paid for the following that I am about to say. I am just giving my personal opinion on this amazing product and what I have to say makes it sound like I'm a fan boy hired by BHR to come on here and give out some crazy review. I swear..that is not the case.

Initial Thoughts: As I unpacked this puppy from the box and found it in the massive mess of PINK PEANUTS (thanks to UPS Ray claims..though I'm sure if it's pink, we all know it's from Ray) I simply had my jaw hitting the floor. The weight, the looks, the quality is... Well. You decide.. No word really gives justice to what I see.

When I was younger I used to build these cool little Gundam models from Japan. They were models of these robots from a anime I used to watch and they would have various "grades" to show not only the difficulty, but the detail and quality in the model. The highest was Master Grade. It was huge, with tons of parts, and tons of things to make sure you see every single bit of detail and make the model look as real as it gets. This pipe is beyond Master Grade... Hows that for an answer? The welds are phenomenal, the looks of this unpolished version looked insane regardless, and all of my friends thought I bought this from some crazy Japanese tuner company.

This is the definition of QUALITY.

Installation: Like any cat/midpipe install, this was the same. Clean and easy, though I was extra careful to try not to scratch this thing up..as pointless as that is. With the gaskets in, and everything bolted up...the fit is better than OEM. Literally. Quote me on that. the fit into the hanger..the fit into where it belongs.. the high quality bolts and high quality gaskets..everything is BETTER than OEM in terms of fitment and quality. And to everyone that is going to want me to be specific... YES. YES. IT CLEARS the braces with plenty of space and ZERO RATTLE OR RUBBING. So no sweat.

Driving Impression: Well... I have a lot to say on this. The sound of the MIDPIPE (yes I mean the midpipe only) is incredible. It's much better than the Agency Power crap that ended up on my car...And the midpipe itself REALLY brings out the sound of the cat back. I can't really explain how I can tell, but you just can, especially when I am comparing to other midpipes I've heard with my catback, as well as having had a midpipe on my car and then switching to this. Though because it brings out the crappy ricey buzzing in the HKS hi power exhaust (because before the stock cat muffled everything), it sends me over the sound limit of 90 DB at autocross. That being said, I'm going to move back to stock cat back for awhile until I decide what catback I want to do or perhaps something else....

In terms of power... yum. Usually in autocross with RX8's you can do this "on and off" thing with the throttle and not end up spinning your tires too much that causes you to slide...now I can. Granted I'm heavily modified so it's a mixture of everything, but the midpipe sort of sent it over the edge there..which is good, just a learning curve for me In terms of highway, the extra acceleration is great and VERY smooth and consistent. Nothing but a big plus there as well.

Final Words: I love it. It's a great piece, and instead of going back to stock cat and keeping my HKS Hi Power.. I'm keeping the midpipe instead and going stock cat back..thats how much I love this. It's a phenominal piece of work that every RX8 enthusiast should have. I had a 240 owner that took a good look at it, and said "So when is BHR making 240 parts?"

Big thanks to Ray for everything, the amazing pipe, and all the advice and ideas this weekend during Divisionals on what I should do about my catback for now. I recommend everyone gets this who wants to go midpipe and get that beautiful sound and power that their car is hiding behind that stock cat.

Thanks for the excellent review Zelse and I'm thrilled that you found every aspect of the pipe from looks to sound and performance as great as you stated. Everyone here at the BHR team has been looking forward to getting this pipe out!

No problem :D Thanks for reading and glad you enjoyed it. Like I said, I'll be reviewing it some more once I put the stock cat-back back on the car so I can romp on the car and not worry about getting everyone's attention. I really love this thing though, the extra power is VERY addicting and the tone/sound to it is excellent. Now you guys just need to come out with a beautiful exhaust to match this sexy note and we'll be good. :D
