Okay, so I have had the SR Motorsports cat less non resonated mid pipe, and the RX7store single resonated cat less mid pipe and both have had me considering ditching my HKS HI power due to the excessive noise. Actually, adding the resonated pipe made no real difference at all. I loved the sound at WOT and at idle but that was it.

NOW!!!! I have the BHR pipe and it is just amazing. I have to admit I was skeptical that it was going to be able to quiet the HKS down because even a RP supercat I borrowed did not quiet it much. But it does. I am not sure what is going on in that little resonator but it fucking works.

It quiets it down just enough, makes it sound almost exotic. I am still stoked to have my car back and not annoy my neighbors(much anyway). I took some clips with my BB but I may just shoot some vid so I don't have to mess with hosting the audio files.

I went for a spin with Grungepup and the sound difference is just amazing, no more embarrassing the GF or avoiding Valets, :lol: We rolled up to a G35 next to an overpass and my REVS put the VQ to shame.

Eph the box, the box didn't matter much to me. BHR made the pipes to withstand the rotary. What can a UPS guy do to it that's worse? Nothing.

Yes, even driving to work this morning I was still amazed. Usually going up the hill exiting my neighborhood is a loud affair and I always feel guilty I am waking everyone up. But, today the noise level was totally acceptable. Not quiet like I said but just right, no louder than a Ferrari or any other high strung factory car. I am getting some burn in smoke but I am sure after today that will be gone.

I will post up audio clips in a bit.

the pipe sounds great. Police34 installed his last night and I have to say that it was quiet and dignafied matched with his hymee exhaust..... you will soon see my mid pipes in the for sale section ;).... bhr pipe here I come

I just uploaded them (still trying to figure out how to make them public because I suck at FTP) but I hate that the recorder changes the sound just a bit, you really have to hear it in person and I need to find a high quality recorder (working on it).

I think I have an exhaust leak on mine from the front flange. I am getting a "hissing" air sound occasionally under the right throttle conditions, and it sounds like it's right under me (front to back).

Is there a right way to orient the gasket? And I've got the thin gasket there, as was on OEM. Might just need to torque it down farther. I'll have to check to see if they are loosening up a bit.

Just seems like it's slowly becoming louder, which points to a changing condition, like loosening of bolts. I'll be checking tonight. Got a call last night that kept me distracted and didn't remember to check until I was already on my way to work this morning.

Keep in mind those hissing sounds is what I got with the first batch of midpipe and I thought it was a leak but it wasn't. I still get it now, but it all goes away when the exhaust warms up. I've had two people before tell me it's just how a catless midpipe sounds when it's cold. Thats just me.. I've checked for leaks on the old one and it was fine so.. sounds right to me.

I think I need to borrow jack stands and someone's drive way...hmmm...or maybe I'll just go to my mechanic. We'll see.

Yeah I am going to get mine up on the lift at grungepups shop to double check the bolts but I was too excited to wait so I put the car on jack stands in the garage to do it :)

I had a feeling...Just a precaution...I've been known to snap off bolts from tightening them too much. I guess I dont know my own strength... :dunno:

I decided to go to my mechanic anyway...I dont know anyone locally that has jack stands. I'll take pics and video this weekend. :naughty:

I received my BHR midpipe on 9/8 and installed it the same night due to a year and a half of anticipation.

I first saw the prototype in June of 2009 during my trip to Arizona when I stayed with Ray for a week. The talk of the clique was the midpipe and other future products yet to be released by BHR. I remember driving with Ray to the shop to pick up the pipe and all the talk about the design about not only the absence of glass packing but that of a single resonator. The talk about the tools that are in this industry and the pure genius behind BHR kinda set the tone for this pipe when it came out of the shop and into the hands of the Bald Headed Retard.

The pipe was polished and looked like a million bucks. I played with it for a few when it was brought back to Ray's house and really like how the interior looked and the welds flowed smoothly with no jagged marks that are typical with other pipes we have seen. I took some pics of the pipe and brought them back with me to show my wife my new future toy. I promised to not show them until Ray posted them online a few days later.

Flash foward to last night and my first unbiased thoughts of the packaging, quality, fitment and sound of BHR's newest product. My pipe was packaged as I had expected of a BHR product. I have never been shipped a box, from BHR, that looked like it came from straight out of a wood chipper. The quality of the pipe appeared as when I saw it in June of 09. Although it was not polished I was/am still impressed by it's appearance and shininess. The welds are perfect even in the tightest of areas. It is obvious there were no corners cut during the construction of this midpipe.

The fitment of the pipe is perfect. The last two midpipes I have had pushed my exhaust back a little because of the oversight on the length of the midpipe. The BHR pipe fit snug without having to push or pull anything closed prior to install.

I installed the midpipe with the backup of forum member, RWD+LSD=ZOOM (Chris), after a needed break due to aggravation. The aggravation had nothing to do with the pipe itself, just me rushing to get it done and forgetting key steps. So the midpipe was on, however I would find out later it was not too snug in the back. I took it out and immediately noticed a rear leak but drove anyway since it only surfaced at idle. I drove the car around for a few and upon entering the roadway I noticed my effortless power was back that I had stolen from me when I returned to my stock cat. I did not drive fast just steady enough to get moving.

I have the Hymee stainless tip exhaust which I feel is the best sounding exhaust for the RX-8. Upon startup the tone was slightly higher than with the stock cat but it is far from loud and still rather quiet. Coming from two prior catless midpipes which were both ditched because of leaks and excessive noise at all rpm ranges, I must say this pipe is spot on with tone. Driving down the road with the windows down at low rpm in my neighborhood the tone was no different then before. While merging into traffic I couldn't help realize how much I love my exhaust. Think of an Indy car at high rev, yeah, it's like that. My buddy Chris was driving next to me and he is now on the order list.

Mid revs are really nice and not loud at all. Typically with catless midpipes your exhaust tone will change at all revs but not with this one. My exhaust tone is pretty much the same except for high revs. At high revs you can really hear the true rotary buzz that is not annoying at all, rather an exotic lullaby.

Overall I really enjoy not only this midpipe but the nice spool of the turbo that is very evident and the tune of my catback as well. With the added power and not having to choose sound over power when it comes to midpipes I really recommed this pipe to any novice, veteran or hater of BHR to try this pipe and see how they like it. Being the fact there is no glass packing I think this pipe will not only last forever but will not be matched by any other midpipe to be sold for the RX-8 in the future. In other word; job well done to BHR.
