You know how the ride deteriorates over time so that you can't really notice? I've been on stock shocks/struts with Tein S-Techs since I got the car. Now I have about 60k miles and I'm wondering if it's time to upgrade. How long are shocks supposed to last? My car is just my daily driver. No track time or anything.

great question - i was just searching the same thing. i have never owned a car long enough to need to change the shocks so i don't know how to know if it's time for a change in mine. interested to hear what those who know can tell us.

You've been driving on OEM struts for 60k with S-Techs? Wow. Yeah I would think they'd be pretty shot by now. The increased spring rate and lower profile should have worn the struts more then normal but even on a stock car after 60k the OEM shocks are pretty worn. Although I live in NE Ohio so our roads are a fair bit more treacherous then some flatter, warmer parts of the world.

I put my Tokico D-Spec struts on with Tein H-Specs over the Winter and love the drive so far. At the higher setting you can really, really, really feel the difference and when you dial it down 5 or 6 rotations the ride feels exactly like OEM. Girlfriend doesn't even complain when I'm driving (tho she does when it's at a track setting ). Just make sure you get the rear adjusters to go with them so you can easily switch back and forth. Koni Yellows are a great choice for pure performance but I think the Tokico's are better for a DD with the occasional track/autox/spirited drive duty.

Thanks for the info. Struts wear gradually over time so it's really hard to tell a change in ride quality until you drive someone else's car or if you're really sensitive to those changes.

I read somewhere (maybe in this thread) that the Tokico's would ride higher than the Koni's. I thought the springs, and not the struts, would the determining factor in ride height. Have any input on that?

Just let me say that in order for you the consumer to benefit the most from this sale,, I would advise buying the item that reaps the best discount.
Hawk Brake Pads are a great item,, but. The margin for us and most dealers is not that large. So you would not be saving as much money as you could be by buying say,, Ray's Wheels.
Fast selling, high demand items are really close at retail price to cost.
So you wouldn't save very much money on the item. But one time items like wheels,, most companies mark them up higher than fast selling items.
It's volume sales. Smaller mark up on items that are moving ,, higher mark up on items that don't sell as often.
Higher mark up = more savings. Lower mark up = less savings. I would want you the consumer to save the most money on what you will be buying.
Hawk pads,, save maybe 5-10 % +/-
Rays Wheels,, save maybe 20-30% +/-

It doesn't matter to us what you buy. Because their is no profit in it for us.
I would like to see everybody save as much money as they can during this sale.
I hope this makes sense to you all.

Yes although that's usually not as big of an issue as when your struts wear down.

Struts/Shocks do not affect ride hide. There are people who swear it does but they're wrong.

Feel free to email any strut manufacturer and ask them.

There's no such thing as 'cheap and decent looking' Gram Lights or Volks. Even at wholesale you're going to get 'expensive' and 'awesome looking' - it'll just be a little less expensive then normal. But you should definitely ask for a quote on some GLs or Volks. Actually screw that. You should ask for a price on some Gunmetal 18x9 G Games 77 Wolfs. You want the perfect wheel for any color RX-8 - that's it.

I have them on my car now!

Model number: DBA 42550XS & DBA 42551XS (F & R)

Link:http://www.dba.com.au/view_product.p...series_id=2451

Part is for sports suspension, but l'm not sure if they fit on a stock rx8.

Nope. We have been existing on nothing more than our presence here and referrals from customers. Suffice it to say we are only getting started.

I guess we all can get sucked in to thread jacks. i deleted my prior post as it was tasteless to reference anything other than BHR's products in this thread.

Now on to the wish list. Is it just me or when BHR comes out with a new product suddenly doesn't your OEM stuff seems like its just not working right! You know that cat just doesn't seem right... i hear mid pipe...
