Wouldn't those flames kill the rear bumper in no time?

The only performance mod that I've done to the car is the Borla exhaust.

The flames are just a by-product of aggressive driving, the Borla exhaust, and Mazda's excessively rich fuel maps.

So far I have not seen any damage to the rear bumper but your mileage may vary.

The photo above makes the car look like it has two flame throwers but if you watch the video you'll see that they are really just quick flashes and are gone in an instant.

In my opinion the flames don't last long enough to catch a tailgating car on fire but it sure catches their attention. :P

This has been asked a few times so I'll just quote my response from the other thread.

Vivid Racing wants $595 and that includes S&H.

I originally placed my order with Borla but after waiting almost a month and making a few phone calls they finally admitted that they lost/cancelled my order. On that same day I called Vivid Racing and a week later I have it installed on my car.

Less money and better service, that's the way it should be. Thanks Vivid Racing!

Cool video Roy. My 85 RX-7 used to do that. I bought a Racing Beat header, stright pipe, and muffler and she used to do that too with that patented rotary "pop" Man do I love rotaries!! :D

That must have come out wrong. Don't worry about asking questions. If I happen to know the answer I'm happy to provide it.

Kevin,
What do you have planned for your 8? Are you going with Borla or are you holding out for Racing Beat?

Warm up engine
Get the exhaust red hot by running the car over 6k RPMs for several minutes
Come to a stop or at least keep it under 60 MPH (slower = bigger flames)
Rev it hard (WOT) and lift off on the throttle quickly
INSTANT FLAMES!!!
As you can see, it is not easy to get flames because the conditions have to be perfect to ignite the unburnt fuel. Likewise I have not seen any damage to the paint or body work on the car but your mileage may vary. :p

If Mazda ever corrects the pig rich fuel map the flames will probably go away for good.
