Question Borla Exaust - Sound

Can anyone describe what the Borla sounds like on the RX8. Before I buy it I need to know that it does not have that rice rocket low frequency farty sound. Also do you hear it inside the car and how loud is it?
Thanks.

nyspeed,

I believe there are a bunch of threads out there that have sound clips, try doing a search.

Also, check out this clip on my site.

http://www.justindotcom.com/Shared%2...s/KNintake.mov

There is part of the clip that is an 8 with the KN intake and Borla exhaust (Speed Racer's car). That should give you a general idea.

I'm curious to know why you think the Borla is too loud? At idle the car is almost as quiet as the stock exhaust and only slightly louder when cruising on the highway. It is only under full throttle that the exhaust really comes to life and makes its presence known. I think in the end you will find that the Borla and Racing Beat will probably be some of the quietest aftermarket exhausts available.

I have drivern a car with the borla and now I have the racing beat. The borla is a bit luder but not even close to hondaish. The racing beat is very quiet but yet noticable under throttle. You have to remember this is a rotary motor and they can only get so quiet and only so deep sounding. The deepest sound ive heard is from my racing beat but the borla is a close second and a good exhaust all around. You really cant go wrong with either of them.

Coming from a DSM with a greddy sp, the 8's borla is loud.

Have you heard the Borla in person or are you just going off of the sound clips and videos that have been posted?

Prejudice in the fact that I'm going off all the sound clips and vids I've heard. The only one I've heard that doesn't sound as loud as the others is the SPII....IMO. I still haven't heard the one by Leg Motorsports, the HKS, the Magnaflow, and a few others. So, my opinion in this matter is a little biased, but to what I have heard, a DSM with almost any exhaust is still quieter than an 8.

Then again, DSM's don't redline at 9 =)

It is really hard to tell how loud an exhaust is by listening to clips that have been posted because they don't give you a point of reference. If I can make a suggestion, you should be listening for the tonal characteristics and picking out what sounds good to your ear.

The Racing Beat has a deep smooth tone. Where as the B&B is at the other extreme and is a bit brassy and has an edge to it. Also in person it is quite a bit louder than the Borla. It is not bad, it just depends on what you like.

I've got the B&B on my 8 and I love it. Speed Racer has taken a ride with me so he has a good point of reference. My personal preference was to get an exhaust that has a lot of "attitude" towards it. The Borla was a little too quiet for me, and the B&B sounds like an F1 coming down the street (if you haven't listened to Vivid's sound clip for the B&B its definitely hot. The echo effect can't be beat). If you want to hear my B&B check out http://www.justindotcom.com/Shared%2...oatexhaust.mov

Make sure quicktime is installed. Clip courtesy of Red Rocket Innovations :-)

The B&B exhaust and K&N intake on Justin's car sounds mean in person. The video doesn't do it justice.

Speed racer, is that 'flame throwing RX-8' yours in the video you posted earlier?
I mean... I saw the video and the flames were big indeed! Jesus! I kinda liked 'em:D
My knowledge is limited, but I wonder, which modification on your car is the cause?

No other mod is needed. Just go drive the car hard to heat up the pipes, come to a stop and rev the engine.

Zoom zoom BOOM!

How does the magnaflow sound compare to Borla, B&B and RB?

My Magnoflow is the one from RX8Store. The sound is more like the Borla but maybe a bit more raspy. The B&B is the loudest.

Hmm. Cool. I'm a Borla fan, but after seeing the tips on the "official" magnaflow exhaust... I decided that I like 'em bigger (than the Borla's). RX-8 Store or B&B (maybe too loud for me) sound like other good alternatives...
