Talking Borla Exhaust

I would like to get a idea if any of you have changed your exhaust system, and are you happy with the product you choose.

I have had good luck with the Borla Company. I once damaged my mufflers due to stupidity, on my other car and they replaced my entire exhaust system free, including shipping and returning the item.

So I would like to hear from others if it's worth the expense.

I've heard nothing but good things about the Borla but I went with the RX8store exhaust instead. The Borla design is strange in that it has a crazy bend in it. Everything I've learned about exhaust flow is the straighter and smoother the better.

Exhaust systems are highly debated and discussed here. Try the search feature and check out the many threads on exhuasts.

To the "Forum Police" - be nice. Try not to alienate a new member. If you have something nasty to say hit the Back button instead.

He was asking if people were happy with their choice not for tech info which is usually the recurring question that should be searched for. Nothing wrong with that.

Extremely happy. It has a nice, deep, throaty sound without the ricey bumblebee sound. It's definitely louder than stock, but not a lot. I like to respect my neighbors. The only problem that I've had with it is one of the hangers hits something on the undercarriage and causes a slight buzz around 4k RPM, but there's a fix documented for that somewhere, I just have been too lazy to get to it.

Just installed a B&B exhaust this weekend. A little louder than I expected, but doesn't sound bad (and won't be mistaken for a civic). Fit and finish is very nice, and the tips aren't too big (imho).

I recently heard the Borla at Mazdatrix. The RX-8 also had the K&N intake. I was actually surprised at how quiet the Borla sounded.

Yeah, you should have done a search though. It's your friend.

I can't find the exact post now, but it's in one of the Borla threads. The hanger next to the rear diff is a little close and has caused some rattles in some cases.

Solution:

Wrap some masking tape around the hanger nearest to the rear diff
Drive your car for a few dozen miles (until you've heard the buzz a few times)
Take the hanger off
Find where the tape is marked and use a torch to heat up and bend the hanger slightly
I'm going to be fixing mine on Saturday. I'll post any other little tips I figure out when I'm done.

just remember if you buy used, borla will have nothing to do with you. They only assist original owners.

I found this out the hard way when I bought my borla NEW from someone who had accidentally ordered two of them. They made some minor redesign changes to prevent the muffler from banging against the heat shield and I wasn't able to get the fix.

CaptainJ, It's up to what you like the best man. The Racing Beat is a little louder than stock, the borla is louder than the RB, but with a deeper tone. Personally I love the sound of the borla.

I think it's a bit weird that with a community this big there isn't someone who have a "testcar", and have tried a shitload of parts for it and given it their verdict It's not the same when only people who own a part currently gives it their verdict, as they can't compare to anything but stock. Only errors disturb happiness then

You talking about me? I've had four aftermarket exhausts, two midpipes, and a ton of other non exhaust parts too.

Just because people only have bought one exhaust, doesnt mean they've only herd stock, and their new exhaust. Many people go to meets, and hear many different types of exhaust. I have herd RB, MazdaSpeed, Exoticspeed, Borla, Agency Power, and a few others, and out of all those, i still like the sound of the Borla the best.

Yeah, that's cool, and I've read mysql101's posts and seen his youtube vids too, so some stuff exists. But it's not collected in a way with good overview imo. Coming from the miata community, it's really accessible with reviews for parts etc. The exhaust stuff aren't that bad though, there's a thread with decent links, pricing and sound clips. I was talking more in general

Always nice to hear unbiased views.

Yes, but it's not really much opinions in there, unless you read 50 pages, which I admit I'll do often anyway :P

If you are in the US and buy something you aren't happy with you just put it on Ebay though, I'm not that lucky

What's so extra special about your Borla, that sounds kinda dirty

i like the way Borla sounds. I still prefer the sound of the Mazdaspeed. i currently have the Mazdaspeed exhuast with the RP highflow cat and cant get enough of the sound. which might explain why my gas needle drops so fast
