Borla issues - defective 1st productions
I purchase a Borla exhaust months ago from the rx7/8store.com and could not resolve the rattle issue. I tied back the heat shield, etc. with no luck. I was IVO Borla down in Oxnard, CA and stopped by to have them check it out. Before they even put it on the lift the guy in the garage said it was an older one. The customer service rep I was dealing with was not aware of the rattle issue. He took down my name and address and they shipped me a new one. It arrived today. There is a very noticeable difference in the design. The canister is angled differently creating much more room between it and the heat shield.

Just curious, is it normal for the exhaust to turn "brown" after some period of usage?

Yea, I think they are aware of the issue now. Are you sure you have the old one ?

Notice the brown mark at the far end of the heat shield ? That is where the canister would contact the heat shield when I hit bumps. Now it is about 3 inches away because they angled the canister down in the back. Before it was about MAYBE an inch away. See the weld line of the canister ?(from the post above) Before it was parallel to the ground

I'll be giving them a call. Mine was bought back in Feb '04 and has the same brown marks on the heatshield and is very close. Rattles intermitenly.
Hopefully I sent in the warranty registration form cause I can't find my receipt.

my borla has no such marks on the heat shield, but the unit is so high it is actually touching the heat shield on the top towards the rear of the car, and if i hit the heat shield, it bounces off the can. How does the new borla compare in position to the old one?

Is there that much of a gap from the canister to the heat shield when the car is cold ? If there is a noticeably smaller gap, then you have the old one.
