brake caliper question?

Hey quick question, I have been searching to buy new brake calipers. Note: this would only be for cosmetic reasons. I love the way after market "performance" brake calipers look but all i can seem to find is full brake kits like this 1 that is anywhere from 1500 to 2000 dollars. All i really want is the brake caliper portion. I really think that they are cool looking and would be a worth while 100-200 dollar visual upgrade.Btw im not looking for those metal or plastic brake covers that are sold on ebay. I'd be looking to buy the actual caliper...just not the full kit for alot of money, that is if they work with the stock parts. thx for the help

examples:

Why don't you just get the stock calipers powdercoated and then get some decals like the ones that say "Rx-8" or "Mazdaspeed" from Polak graphics?

i could do that, but if possible id rather get some aftermarket ones because i would like the look of them better.

(off to go search, I'll be right back)

i dont want to look like a "pozer" or "liar" about the equipment of my car, but instead of just painting my calipers id rather get the ones with chrome on them...for every day driving the 8 has great brakes, i dont plan to do any competitions in the 8. maybe a few track days but this would not be for me to make other people assume i have a 2 thousand dollar brake kit...purely cosmetic...almost like painting your current brake calipers but a bit more expensive and with chrome lol.

but again, i dont want to be seen as a pozer or whatever by me not getting the full kit, i just like the look of the aftermarket calipers.

but yeah, thats a little too fake for me, id like the actual calipers...like said above, its almost like the fake sunroof =P

I agree with you though Ivory, these BBK are WAAAY to expensive. It's a hefty price to pay just for the looks.
Most of us will not get the benefit of the BBK's since we don't track but they sure do look niiice.

I have an idea!

Why not paint the calipers and get aftermarket rotors?! Get some drill or slotted ones, they should look pretty badass with painted calipers and it won't break the bank like the BBK's

I know they look a little bumpy kinda in the pics, but they really aren't.
Of course, you could just go buy the calipers. I was and still am considering the Rotora's in tha last pic.

Been awhile since I was considering it, will have to refresh my memory and let you know. I have all kinds of bookmarks for RX8 related sites, so I may have to go through them. Take a real hard look at Racing Brake first, make sure you go all the way to home page and take various paths.....I seem to remember I found it on there and others, but I could be wrong. I'll take a look in a little while.

But since I have the Racing Brake slotted two-piece rotors, I know I can buy the calipers from them at anytime. Maybe that's what I am remembering in that case. I know that they allow for that.

Dave

I can tell you that you are asking for something that doesn't exist for a couple hundred bucks, welcome to the (expensive) real world.

You either have to go for the full monty BBK, or simply do what most do and paint the caliper with some brake paint (even there you can cheap out and use spray, or go quality and get nice shiny epoxy brush on).

I went with epoxy painting and some 2-piece slotted RB rotors myself. Together the system is highly functional, looks great, and both the shiny red calipers and the rotors attract plenty of notice, people ask me about them often, if that what's important to you.

Whatever you do, if you don't keep up with religiously cleaning the calipers, it won't matter what you get - they'll look like crap in no time with the road/pad dust turning them grunge black.

Check out the pics.

I used the G2 painting kit and painted my calipers gold and added the Polak RX-8 graphics in red, then added the slotted StopTech rotors and Hawk HPS pads, and Mazdatrix braided SS lines, awesome brakes and they look sexy I must say. I did chew off some of the paint on the calipers when I installed my rotors, lines, and pads, so I need to redo them and add new graphics. I think they look great and will suit my needs until I get even more power and start doing frequent track events.

True,

You aren't even going to be able to buy one real caliper with 100-200 dollars. the custom lightweight aluminum caliper is the most expensive thing in the kit, I would expect to pay around 600-700 each.

This is probably the cheapest that you can find out there:

^If you get just slotted rotors that's probably one of the best deals out there- rotors, pads, lines, and beefier calipers for under $1200 from a reputable company
