Question Canzoomer Cable: Can I make my own?

Hi,
The last piece I need to get the Canzoomer installed in my 8 is the "USB cable" that connects the canzoomer unit and the laptop.

I have read, and it even looks, that it's just a normal USB cable. Why then this cable costs $75.00 ?? I guess it's a bit expensive...

I believe this is because of the SW that is needed to interface the unit, right?

So can I make my own cable? What about the SW? Can this be shared?

TIA,
Carlos

I'ts not a USB cable at all...if you use one it could fry your laptop. It's a proprietary serial interface with a USB type plug on it.

Buy one and save yourself a lot of headaches and potential expensive problems :D

I see. I bet you it has the serial - USB converter with some of the pins reversed for Rd/Tx. I might just buy it. Spent so much money on this that being cheap on $75.00 could indeed cost me potential problems...

Thanks

i think the difference (or part of it anyway) is that the pins for the power feed are not not hooked up

$75 is worth it. I think I got mine at $50. Just go to the Yahoo Group E-manage or Emanage. There's a contact there for ordering the replica cable. Works really well.

I wasted an entire month and $$ experimenting and researching on how to create my own cable. After seeing a picture of the serial interface disected, it prompted me to just order the replica.
