changing spark plug will gain hp?

i have seen a video somewhere on here that someone replaced the new spark plugs and he got 20-30 hp gain. is that real?
i have 23k miles on my car now, would it be too early to replace the spark plugs?

oldragger. have you really seen 15 hp with just sparks? why would everyone be raving about 1500 dollar intx when you can get 15 ph for sparks. so much cheaper. i dont know that i beleive it, fortunatly for me the burden of proof rests with the claimer. is there any dyno (not butt dyno) that shows any gains with upgraded sparks?

IntX will get you more power even when you have good spark plugs. replacing your messed up spark plugs will net you significant power gains? don't believe me? Grab a pair of gunked up crappy plugs and swap them in place of a new pair. If you don't feel the difference, you can't find the gas pedal. I suppose you aren't really gaining power, as much as you are taking power back when you change your spark plugs.

yeah, 15 hp gains from new spark plugs is like saying you gained 5 hp by not using cheap gas that someone watered down. You aren't gaining anything.

If you look at that vid, you'll see that the car already had problems where there was a loss of power at 7200. The new plugs just gave back what he lost. If you listen to it, the guys in the video say that they've reached a peak somewhere around 184hp which is a pretty "normal" pull if my memory serves me correctly.

I did my own plugs at 30K miles as part of the scheduled maintence but i wasnt about to pay 800 dollars to mazda for it. Picked up some plugs at Rotary Performance 7's and 9's for the RX7 work just fine in our car.

The oem plugs were caked with black and brownish ****, i was noticing some difficulty on startup. After the new plugs its clean and fast and feels like the engine is a little more Rev happy.

Its not that your really "gaining" power, your taking the power back that has been slowly slipping away over the life of the old spark plugs. Thats why they say a redline a day will keep the carbon away!

My car is at 60k miles right now. I am taking it in tommorow morning to get the spark plug/starter update from the dealership.

I get occasional blinking CEL most likely misfiring because the car will stutter and lose power everyonce in a while above 7k rpm.

Do you think the spark plug change will help that problem out? The plugs are original with 60k miles on them. I am thinking the spark plug swap will help out considerably.

Yes.

My service rep at Mazda South in Austin, TX is really 'effn cool. Mod friendly as well.

They charged me an arm and a leg for a new clutch and bumper (clutch wasnt under warranty).... so he was cool when I asked him for the TSB update on the car... told him I was misfiring occasionally and he said NP!

I just had the recall work done, new plugs and reflash. The new plugs made a difference in performance. I use to have the hesitation at around 7k, not anymore.
