Clutch & Flywheel Decision ?
Sorry if this has been discussed I have searched but failed on what I was looking for..
Currently Right now I'm looking for the best clutch and flywheel combination.
My first combination was
Mazdaspeed Flywheel 2.92kg (About 6 Pounds) + Counterweight.

I thought that this would be a good setup till i ran into this website.

it's part number RE-13120EXT but I think I would go with the all aluminum flywheel for $119.00 more..

I personally don't have experience in this area, but I have read a lot. What kind of driving are you going to be doing? Just daily driver? Track/auto-x? I have read that a really light flywheel and aggressive clutch are not easy to drive in stop and go, kind of a chore. But it kind of depends, match your mods to your needs/usage.

The reason I now offer the BHR Flywheel is because I once had an SR flywheel, which was nice and light at 9.25 lbs. However, when I had a problem with the dowel pins falling out and they refused to do anything about it, I decided to offer a flywheel behind which BHR will stand and assure your satisfaction.
Most of the stuff produced by BHR was simply because nobody else had yet thought of it or had not yet done anything about the problems we were facing with the RX-8 at the time.
BHR also sells a LOT of non-BHR parts, too, from your favorite brands.

"azathoth" has. i have exedy 12 lbs chromoly with exedy stage 2 cluth.
AZAthoth, why don't you wanna drive it daily? is it too heavy for the clutch? or too light?

SPEC single and multi disc clutch kits
i have also been wondering whats available for our cars... and have been looking and seen all of the brands listed above by others.
BUT, i also came across a brand called "SPEC" clutches. and since i've been looking for a streetable flywheel/twin disc clutch pkg., this seems to grab my interest after some searching.
the SPEC mini-twin are customizable, and have a variety of clamp loads and friction material. they are also rebuildable. in fact, i believe all of the kits/pkg are rebuildable... the bonus may come from when going to a multi disc.
i normally wouldn't care too much for clutches, as most NA rx-8 aren't going to be gaining massive HP's in stock trim, even when raced. but since the car may see track usage... i now search for something that can handle the dual-purpose... on a stock motor.
hope my long searching for a quality product can be of value to the forum.

ask BHR i recently bought the AHD/Mazdaspeed havnt intalled it yet but if you want ill send you some feed back after i have had a couple miles on it... best thing you could do is ask BHR wat fits you best tell him waht kind of a driver are you and what you expect to do with ur car.. worked for me

OP thought about SR motorsports. failed.
Get it from BHR/CRH, Spec/Fidanza are the lightest FW you can get.
Clutch ... just use OE or stage 1. no point going 2 unless you're putting serious FI Power, and yes you can get them from CRH too he will give ya the best price

If there is one place Mazda got it right with the RX-8 it was with the clutch. Even the Exedy clutch that comes from the factory is darned good and able to deal with 320 h.p. capably. The popular replacement clutch from the Exedy line for the RX-8 is the "Stage 1" as it is a bit cheaper than the factory clutch but has just a slight bit more clamping force on the pressure plate. I sell Exedy, ACT, and SPEC.
I also have a lightweight pressure plate assembly that I offer from SPEC that, in conjunction with the BHR flywheel, will help you have the lightest rotating mass assembly before having to go to multi-disc or other expensive options.
I offered the lightweight clutch kits from SPEC and had problems with them so I placed that product on hiatus for a while. I am going to install one on my car soon and I have an AZ customer whose kit I will install on his. After that, I will install one on MazdaManiac's car and, if all three clutches install and operate without trouble, I will slowly re-enter the BHR/SPEC clutch kit into the market.

The larger point is that Black Halo Racing was founded as a response to what I saw as an industry that had horrible customer service, especially after the sale, and I decided to put my money where my mouth was and set the example by offering an alternative.

But overal its mutch better, the feeling in the clutch is way better, easier to make fast gearing for example.

To be honest you wont feel the difference in a flywheel that is 9lbs or 10lbs. The difference is they all weight less than stock. Fidanza makes most of the flywheels on the market. Companies just put their own badge on them.

i'm leaning towards the stage 5???..... something with a very lightly upgraded clamping force on the PP for daily driving, combined with the most reliable/best c.o.f. long-life material (carbon/kevlar.etc) FULL faced discs.
i'm having trouble figuring out the best street compromise on their page.
the car will be daily'd, requiring smooth engagement. the motor will stay in NA form even for track use, hopefully benefitting from a small increase in clamping force and more durable friction material.
thats my aim. and with so many discs for different apps, i hope there will be a package available from you when i need to order. =)
i hope you venture more with SPEC for the users looking for a clutch kit that can compromise. good luck working out the kinks from the previous discs.

Troich, I can guide you along to the proper clutch for your needs. I can also tell you that the SPEC Stage 5 will be WAY too much for anything even thinking about street time. The version you describe is the Stage 2+ and even that may be more than the harshest of we RX-8 owners needs.

I just installed my BHR flywheel and Exedy clutch yesterday. Noticible improvement in the spinup of the engine. I will take it easy for a bit until it gets broke in but it does seem to accelerate faster. I am happy with it.
