Cobb accessport questions

I just bought this and was curious if I can just use it for the live data and not use it for the custom maps yet. If so, do I still have to have the car off and key to the on position or can I just plug it in while the car is running. Right now I got to admit that I am too scared to use the maps since reading some of these threads. Where the accessport errors and causes the car not to start.
Plus I have a REVi air aintake with ram air attachment and saw that accessport wants stock intake which I am opposed to. Does any one have a revi air intake and ram air attachment with their accessport? Can Mazda Maniacs make a map for me with the revi intake plus other mnor mods?

I will answer your questions in the order they were asked.
Yes you can use it only for the live data. No, you can plug it in while the car is running, and it will read, although I don't know if there are any negative side effects associated with this.
Don't use the Stage 1 map, only because it is garbage unless it was designed for YOUR car, which it was not.
I do not have an after market intake, so I can not tell you, but if you are only using it for live data, there would be no issuse. And since you shouldn't use the stage one map I would say there would be no issues.
And yes Mazda Maniac can create a map with almost ANY mod you can think of (and I a pretty sure on this), but most certainly can do one that set-up.

I appreciate the response. I went to MazdaManiacs site and saw that they suggested no one use the maps that were pre programmed. Frustrating to know that I will probably have to fork out another $300 for I custom tune from them and knowing the gain wont be remarkable but then again if I can get 5 more hp I willl be happy.

It will be well worth the money, it will not only get you a bit more HP it will mean that your fuel trims and AFRs will be correct, something that they are probably not right now. This means your whole car will be happier and your cat might actually last for a while.

Have you gone through MazdaManiacs for a custom map? I was curious what the process was. I am really wanting to do it but dont know if its complicated.

Spent about an hour or so in and around that site. Sounds great and you sure make a great point about the possible fuel trim I may be experiencing. It doesnt sound to hard to install. Reading some threads still have me scared about severe problems that occured to them while installing but I got to admit that I have the itch and might as well get full use out of the Accessport. I appreciate your help. I got too many hobbies and not enough money dang it.
