COld air intake

I am considering getting an AEM intake.

it is my daily driver and i am not sure if driving it in the rain is going to damage my car

not unless you do some deep sea exploration in your 8...

(driving through huge collections of water when it floods/rains)

dont submerge the intake in water and you will be alright.

I have it and I've drove through a couple rain storms with it perfectly fine, even without the cover.

You mean our cars aren't deep sea adventure-ready?

The key is to keep the rain sock on.
It's there for a reason.
I've parked and drove in the rain without issue for 4 years.
And no, your 8 is not a submarine. lol

They don't come with the sock, right? It's an optional accessory, correct?

I'm thinking about going this route, but only with the sock. I had a similar intake on my old 2005 Mazda3, and I drove through a puddle on an expressway ramp in third gear at fairly high speed (relatively high engine RPM). It sucked up enough water to short the MAF sensor, which ended up costing me some $600 to get fixed, including rental. I told myself after that no more CAIs that put the filter so low to the ground.

I heard a rumor that 20,000 leagues under the sea was based on the adventures from inside an rx8

Yeah, i got the AEM (i kinda skipped the last half page so idk if i'm repeating anything), but it's a good intake, it's loud at high RPMs, i give it a cool, low, sound when you got your foot on the gas, and it looks cool in the engine bay and if you can see it through the grill. But we had some heavy rain in Vegas back in September '12 and the streets were closed and i had no where else to and i got into about 8 inches of water. Yes, that messed up my car. But i got it fixed (had to get a new engine due to some complications), and i'm still very happy with it. And i don't know if it's just me, but i little bit more of a pull in 3rd gear, well at least it's more noticeable in 3rd gear.

Sorry to bring back a dead forum but where's the best place/website I can find a AEM or MAZDASPEED cold air intake. Trying to have a few goodies waiting for me at home after I leave Afghanistan lol.

I admit the science of searching the web seems to have lagged a bit:

i have an AEM intake, and today, while driving 8+ hours in snow on I-70, noticed a CEL towards the end. got out and noticed the entire grille (smiley face) was packed with snow (probably from all the trucks driving by and kicking up the snow)....i don't think this ever happened when i had the stock intake. gonna check out the CEL tomorrow morning, hopefully nothing serious. also smelled like something burning, but the coolant temp was fine throughout the drive.
