I would have my turbo mounted in the location the stock catback sits. I would still have the 2 tailpipes (one coming off the turbo and the other the WG). The car itself would be a sleeper except for the sound. The sound of a STS setup is just one reason for this setup . The cooling aspect and simplicity is the other. If you ever had to take the kit off it would be almost as easily as swapping a catback.
I have created several equal length tubular manifolds before and i would make one for this car but there is not enough room. The current kits i feel have 2 problems. One is the large amount of heat that is now in the engine bay and the cast manifolds make me cringe. Anyone that has at least read Corky Bell's book "Maximum Boost" (if you have not buy it) would know that the manifold is too restrictive. There is a reason the most ideal turbo manifolds are sidewinder and equal length manifolds. They both create minimal back pressure and moves the turbo away from the ports.

/\ too restrictive huh ? Maybe if you are chasing 400 whp - certainly not for any less than that .
I'm still waiting for someone with anything but a manifold mounted turbo to show us a decent dyno - till then .........................

its not a HP restriction. I would like to see tests showing the heat increase. On piston vehicles cast manifolds really are not big of a problem because the added heat there really does not cause premature failure like it may on a rotary. I dont do turbo builds caring about hp as much as i do about psi and efficiency. I like to create systems that allow the most HP while putting the least amount of stress on the engine. This is done with a proper turbo and manifold.... With my last car everyone had their turbonetics kit with the cast manifold making 290 hp on 12 psi and giving me **** about how it was "ideal". I welded my own kit with my own manifold and turbo (placed further away) and put down 350hp at 8psi....
Yes, more HP is more stress on the engine but at a lower PSI the engine is not going to blow a HG (Apex seal in our case ) Im not hating on the greddy kit, its just i personally feal IMO that they are a company (which has since reported bankruptcy) that quickly designs a well running kit and gets it out to the market asap. There just are better ways to go about things and its always odd how people with current setups feel that theirs are the best and they dont care to see someone try something new to increase the potential of the platform for fear that it will be better.

I would like to start it in December and when i start a project i normally like to knock it out very quickly so i would estimate a month. It really just depends as im doing some more research with this car and just have alot going on. Looking into getting a new house and another car soon (evo or vette again).
My good friend is going to move in with me and we are going to turn the 8 into a pure project/track car. So as soon as we get settled in the mad scientists are going to get to work.
For all my DFW buddies: In the new house we plan on having a very large garage and a lift put in so going to have alot of install meets

It is fair to say however , that many people come on here and spout off that they are going to do this and that and it will be wonderful blah blah blah and we never see any results . I really hope you are different and can teach us all a thing or two by doing this right and showing us the results .

yay looks like I've got compition lol
I was planing on completing it dec/jan depending on the salary coming in this month
I did alot of over time and guess what!?
I've worked a year with no vaccation so I get a free month turbo building bonus salary.... lol
however my plan has changed a little insted of fabbing a header/dual exhaust with a twin scroll
I may buy a header, cut the flange and weld a 3 inch collector, fab a 3 inch exhaust, and buy a single scroll turbo. 60mm wg unless it becomes a
pain being so large, exaust will most likely be pasenger side and wg driver, as shown in my drawings on my post.
MM expect my cobb order november... kgparts expect my injectors nov/dec... other drivers expect me passing them on jan...
of course track and strip and dyno charts will follow
